I agree on hating to see them go as feeders but check the above link...I have had these fish now for about 4 months...they are simply the easiest fish I have ever got to breed. Follow these steps and you won't have any problem...
1. Water changes minimum of 20% per week
2. Sand as substrate (preferably pool filter sand)
3. Temperature 77 to 82 degrees
4. lots of rocky spots to hide and dig holes under
5. add aquarium sand (1 teaspoon for every 5 gallons)
6. seperate the fry or they will be eaten by both adult labs and blues
Good luck and I'd be lying if I didn't say this...hopefully when you see all those babies you decide not to use them as feeders, lol...
Thanks,
JP

My yellows have always mated and produced offspring. My female blue never had fry until I brought home some male electric blues. Once I did that...I had about 35 electric blue fry to go with my lab fry. I then took back all my adult fish and now I'm raising the fry until they get to be a substantial size and then I take them to the LFS and trade them in for other fish and equipment.
I have never had the labs breed with the blues yet but I believe that labs will breed with about anything.
So now my fry are breeding already but with their own kind at least for the time being.
Hope that helps...the point is that both breeds are very easy with regards to reproduction.
It is all clean water, sand, rocks for the labs and salt to keep them healthy....
Hey, I'd like to see some pics of your fish if possible...
