I'm quite surprised no one here has informed you of the potential problems with using any type of cichlid as a feeder. Sure it can be done, and has been done before, but ANY size cichlid is going to have cartilage in their fins that could spell trouble for the hungry eater.

See those points on the dorsal fin? That's cartilage, and it can get stuck your fishes throat. Get some type of live bearers if you want to use feeders, or do your fishes dietary habits a favor and work them onto frozen food. Feeders aren't the most nutritionally stable form of nourishment, and while it may be entertaining for you, isn't the best for your fish.

Convict. they would breed in a puddle
You need minimum 10 gallon tank
heater set to 80 degrees
bare tank
grow out tank for fry
just getr a male and female, and they do the work thmselves

Agreed!

a prolific African cichlid that would breed large numbers would be Tilapia mariae, but they are not Rift Lake cichlids. not a mouthbrooder
