There was a time that I contemplated tossing a pacu from one of my tanks on the BBQ. It seemed a little edgy to me but doable.

My wife however, flipped out and I hadn't given it any serious thought for a long time. Then I saw this post:

Sometimes if a fish gets beat up, it'd be more humane to just eat it.
Might be harder to cook if you've named them Linda, or Ralph.

My question is, have you eaten anything out of your tanks or is this simply too gross to ponder?

I haven’t but don’t see anything wrong with it

Yes, beside the P-bass caught in Lake Gatun, or the Tilapia that are taking over Lake Bayano
I had a large JD years ago, that had a fight with another cichlid and got half its face get ripped off.
Before it got a chance to deteriorate, I fried it up, it was a great appetizer.

And here in Panama cichlids are commonly eaten, Black belts are still eaten, but the feral oscars, and Tilapia have taken over, in restaurants and in lakes like Bayano and Gatun.

I first started eating what I kept, and would have considered only aquarium fish, when a soldier in Viet Nam
In Viet Nam Gouramis were often served with rice, we American soldiers just called rice and fish heads.

In Argentina large Pacu are a specialty delicacy in a number of restaurants.

Decades ago when I worked at a local tropical fish store, we had a wholesaler who had some large (2 foot plus) pacu. They sent out a pricelist each week and were trying to push the pacu, but they just weren't moving. Then one week the weekly list came with an invite to grilled pacu. The boss and I went and, I must say, pacu was very tasty!

This discussion just makes me puke, lol. I would never eat my fish out of my tank in a million years. Like EVER. Never, ever, ever. That is just cruel on so many levels...man and I thought I was cold for flushing fish down the toilet...y'all are out here suggesting eating your fish. O-O
