Eating From Your Tank(?)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What's the difference between a fish sandwich at the Auto Mac and stuff from a tank.
Or somebodies 4H steer or even a dog?
Unless you're a vegetarian well......
When I was a young-um back in Phu Thai they used to serve fat little puppy burgers at the brothel.

Here on the island where I live, more than half my neighbors make their living off fishing

they used to serve fat little puppy burgers at the brothel.

I mean what's there not to like about that statement!...fill your belly with puppy burgers followed by a bit of jiggy jiggy, lol.

Exactly. What monster eats puppy burgers?

Also, may I say that there is a complete difference from eating fish in the wild to eating from your freakin' tank? Eating from the wild is natural...we were created to catch and eat animals from the wild. But domestic animals are another deal. To me, it's equivalent to eating your dying uncle because he isn't doing well:

Let's go fry Uncle Jimmy today, boys! *unplugs dying uncle and sets off the code blue alarm* Load him in the oven and let him slowly bake for the day. Fresh human finger fries are the best, am I right?!

See how ridiculous and nasty that is? Would y'all fry up Uncle Jimmy? No. Same thing with domestic fish. If I want to eat fish, I would go to the freakin market and buy myself a couple of redfish fillets, much better than eating from the tank.

Finally, as some have mentioned, what about the sanitary aspect of eating stock? What if your fish didn't die from natural causes and instead died from a severe fungus? Would you eat that? <_< I sure wouldn't.

Honestly, I'm laughing and boiling mad right now...I don't know what to feel, LOL.

I wouldn't eat from my tank but not on any moral high ground, i used to joke with a friend about keeping a catfish aquarium just to have fresh catfish whenever i wanted, until i learned how big it would have to be and how long they take to grow.

I simply am not in the habit of getting rid of perfectly healthy adult fish, and as esox said if they die in my tank id be a bit uneasy about what exactly they died of. I'm in the hobby to enjoy keeping healthy adult fish. If my living situation were different i could easily see keeping a stock tank of bluegill or tilapia or something to enjoy fresh fish. But it would be keeping them with the intent of eating them.

You've grown up in a place where you can choose the meats at your please as to what you eat.
In these places duanes is talking about you couldn't just pop down to woolies or coles and go and buy some beef and make burgers.
One of the most popular fish here in Aus is basa. Basa is iridescent shark (closely related species)
Barramundi are a great aquarium fish. Fricking good eating.
I love tandanus and think they're a great fish in the tank. I wouldn't say no at the restraunt.
Crocodiles are incredible. Again good eating.
I'll eat any animal if its legal and not endangered.
Try some kangaroo. Slow cooked is great.

But eating people? That's completely different. Why do you think its illegal?
Cows, Pigs, Sheep, Chickens and goats are all domestic. Would you eat them?

I'm not saying I'm going to eat my beloved pet. But what's the difference to growing fish in aquaponics and eating some excess fish from your tank. Acaras breed like no tomorrow and get to a decent snack size....

Cows, Pigs, Sheep, and other farm animals are different than average domestic animals. Plus, I don't even consider them to be pets; I consider them to be food. When I say domestic animals, I mean dogs, cats, small animals like rabbits, hamsters, chinchillas, etc., and birds, fish, and horses. I don't consider cows, chickens, etc., pets; I consider them food.

The fish you mentioned are game and aquarium fish, meaning fish for eating or potential eating. Most people don't even have the space for those. And while I haven't had crocodiles, I've had their cousin, alligators, and those are some dang good eating. Especially with fried with Cajun Spice...dang it now I'm making myself hungry lol.

Eating excess fish...? Nah. Most fish fry don't even get large enough to be popcorn nuggets in the aquarium hobby. I would rather sell them and make money to buy food or use them for food for larger fish, depending on the size. I consider most fish too pretty to eat anyway; who would fry up Discus or Asian Arowanas and put them on a dinner plate?
