Sorry your fish died. For the record though not all ebjd die for no reason. Last few threads I've read on the subject have had awful things to say about such awesome fish.

As some one who's experienced EBJD highs and lows. Id say 50% of it is owner fault and the other half weak inbred genetics. Mix the two and you got a rep for being weak and expensive fish.
I agree. I have a good breeder where i live so i can get them at 2-4"...

Bully fish I agree 100%, how are all yours doing?

I have had a few just up and die and all other fish in the tank have been fine. I now keep the temp at 83 and so far they are growing like weeds. I really think the higher temp works better for them and a side benefit would be things like ick don't like the warmer temp.

You have to appreciate that the odds are against you with ebjds. Even if they live, a lot of them will show conformational problems as they grow. I had lost about four of them at sizes up to about 5". This last time around, I started with something like 10-11 of them from a reputable breeder. They held up very well; I actually didn't lose any while I owned them, but I was also gradually selling them off as I weeded them out. After eliminating runts, I had maybe four potentials. After eliminating defectives (stunted fins, beak noses, etc), I ended up with ONE that grew well, was healthy, and had no conformational defects. That one is now about 7" and worth all the aggravation, but buying ONE, at random, is like closing your eyes and trying to hit a 3-pointer!

ive had my EBJD for 2 years now.. 7".. no prblems.. this is my second big EBJD, my first died when i did the same exact thing as u! i introduced a regular JD and all of a sudden my 6" EBJD was dead.. i was heartbroken, but now I got one bigger n better then ever.. my lfs sells em at 25$

in my experiance with EBJD the key is you have to baby these fish... Water Changes every week, also add a stress coat solution after water change... When you add another fish it better be alot smaller and pray it doesnt have parasites or stress out ur EBJD... I havent used a UV sterilizer but I hear they help alot...

If I were going to add a female with my 7" male you better believe she is going to be like 3 inches and I will grow her into a breeder...

EBJD are like CHILDREN... lol
