EBJG Died :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Still haven't had any die on me but a few have got the beakface and I got rid of a few that had sunken in spots on their faces.

beak face and martian head are the worse. Its a toss up. I 've experienced weak ones and a few strong gened ones. Thank God my guy is normal and can produce.

Rather not even buy EBJD anymore, or any fish thats gonna die in less then a year anyway
Your damn lucky to get a to a year, after the 1st year your clear sailing.
It's the 1st few months/weeks(weaks :D) that are the hardest.

well some can be more hardy but for the majority of ebjd you need a uv sterlizer and once a week water changes.

I had UV,partial WC's daily,1/3 WC weekly,overkill on filtration & still had deaths.(1.5"-2.5")
I was basically doing Discus maintenance for EBJDs & basically spending Discus money too(@ the same size).:screwy:
Any uneaten food would get a quick vac too.
I'll never try to grow out any EBJD's, 4" or larger for me only.
I've spent too much on the lil guys, even though I thought I could grow them out.
I've never had any probs with any of my other cichlids.

Going from blue to red is the best decision I've ever made.
:naughty:

well then thats your experience with it. Again to each is there own , you also got to consider the stock your buying from ..Most people pawn weak runts on unsuspecting buyers. Again ITS ALL about gene's stock care and each other experience.
I been thru the red phase been there done that.. Blue blood all the way.

EBJD are like CHILDREN... lol
You mean they cost a fortune to raise and leave messes everywhere they go?

This thread shocks me. We know the original breeder of the EBJD and he has none of the problems listed in this thread. However, breeding stock and pairings is critical. This makes me wonder how out-crossed the animals are that people are having issues with.

Just today my son brought home two F1 grade A EBJD's. I suspect you guys are getting inbred animals that are more like F10's.

This reply shocks me. As far as I know the original breeder is no longer operating (I could be wrong) and also his strain of ebjd originated from a pair of jacks who carried the ebjd trait recessively. So your f1 not inbred at all blues were bred from this pair of fish who if still alive would be well over 20 years old? Do you have contact info for the breeder?
