Eheim 2217......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Joe, based on your review and everything else I've heard about the 2217, I just ordered one for my 40g breeder tank. I'm glad to hear you like it so much. I can't wait to replace these two noisy HOBs (or SOBs whichever way you look at it ;) ) with a nice quiet canister.

Well, are you happy with it? Better than the fluval?

SO?! You wish you could sit around in your underwear on MFK without someone in your house bugging you. :grinno:

The problem with the 2217, is that unlike my previous 2213, in which all the media is in a basket, that you can just pull out, it is just loose son its a pain to clean.

I thought that this media bags will make it much easier, just pull it off, rinse it, and then put it in again, but what I heard is that they rip easily.

i used a couple of veggie strainers to rinse the media when cleaning my 2217 filters.

I use hair net, the ones you see people who handle food, they are cheap; I like them because the holes are not to small. I usually used more then two to put the media so when i do maintenance i rinse one at the time.

Ok update....I hate this stupid filter!!!

Yah NOT!
Just cleaned the thing for the first time tonight and it was easier than the Fluval!! Started up like a charm. Will NEVER buy anything else.

Not cool, dude. Not cool. ;) I freaked out there for a minute.

the 2217 is a great filter mine is so old it says it was made in West Germany. Very quiet you can hardly hear it running. I'm thinking about getting a second one after the holidays to go on my other 75gallon tank.
