EHEIM 2260 or FX5???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The winner is determined by who is happiest with their filter and how their fish are doing.

I would like to add that I have since acquired a Fluval FX5 and it is filtering a 125G tank, along with an Eheim 2260. I've had no major issues with the FX5 operation but will admit that I find it a pain in the butt to clean versus the Eheim 2260. It really does take me twice as long to clean as the 2260 probably due to the plant material that gets trapped in the FX5 sponges.

I also don't care for the bottom mounted pump as ingested sand tends to plug it up despite locating the intake strainer 6" above the substrate (dang cichlids!). I don't use sponge pre-filters due to their frequent cleaning requirements.

If money is a problem; FX5 with scrubbies

If money is not a problem: eheim 2262 with biomax/substrat pro

mmmm Its weird, I cant find a 2262 over here but can get a 2260 for 8$ more then a FX5 is this the same in the states price wise? fx5 400$ 2260 $408?

Thinking of getting the 2260 but the idea of no flow is a bit off putting might need a few power heads as suggested lol.

very odd the 2260 have been discontinue by eheim and replaced by 2262 with double taps. compared by 2260 with no double taps.. in return the double tap, and larger rated pump is also what you have mentioned..

Hard to beat an FX5, $230 bucks shipped to your door.

And done my Fx5 will be here march 14th

dam you guys are lucky fx5 230$ :( would make choosing easier too. FX5s are just a few $ cheaper then a 2260. Maybe our 2260s are 2262s? they come with taps and 2400 lph sound like a 2262?

Only advantage I see is the 23L of media thats even more then 2FX5s you need 3 and a bit too match that!

The 2262 is 3400 lph. If it is only a few dollars difference, I would definitely get the 2262.

I have had no problems with flow issues with mine. If you need to direct the flow better, just make a spraybar that fits your needs using PVC or similar pipe/tubing.

ah 3400 lph so ours is just a 2260! Its a few $ difference between the fx5 and 2260, 2262 I cant find the only aus site sells it for close to 1 grand seeing as I can get a 2260x2 for that price seems useless! not sure what too do, was thinking today of a full sump setup but the idea of drilling zzzz!

seeing as you have a 2260, the flow on it would it be suitable for a 6ft or would I really need to buy some powerheads?

Cheers
