I have a 125 Gallon with 2 Eheim 2217's. Tank's been up 3-4 months. I just cleaned the Eheim's a week ago. I have A LOT of what looks like dust floating around in the tank. Eheim just doesn't filter it out. I think it's bits of plant matter, maybe some algae, it's kinda gray. It stays suspended in the water, and the filters don't get it out. I have the ceramic media in the canisters, and filter floss on the top, and Purigen in the bags. I just recharged the Purigen 2 weeks ago and it's brown right now. Seems kinda quick to me. I removed all but one water lettuce plant thinking that was causing this, but no help. I do have some algae from 2 Finnex lights running 6 hours a day, but the algae's not TOO bad I don't think. How do I filter all this stuff outta the water? Why won't the Eheim's get it out?

oh yeah....water parameters...Temp=80, Ammonia=0, Nitrite=0, Nitrate=10-20ppm. pH=7.8

I've never really had a problem with floating debris in my tanks with canisters. How high/low is the intake for the canister and are there any power heads to move the water towards the intake"?

2 Canisters. Intakes are at the back corners of the tank, about 2-3 inches above the substrate. The returns are spraybars just below the water surface, aimed along the water surface to circulate the water surface for oxygen exchange at the surface--standard stuff.

It seems to me that if the 2 Eheim's are turning the total tank volume over 2-3 times per hours, the water should be very nearly perfect after an hour or two? If this dust suspended in the water is there for days on end, something's not right. If I do a 50% water change, the water looks great for a day or two. Then, back to cloudy. It's not a bacteria bloom, because I can see the tiny particles in the water from 4-6 feet away.

I would recommend a couple powerheads on each side of tank to circulate the debris into intakes.

sounds good. Koralia? what size for a 72x18x24 tank?

Try moving intakes more toward the center.
