i know its already been covered by the others, but what are you getting at?
unless your in some weird club where everyone goes around and looks into eachothers cabinets (actually that doesnt sound half bad) no ones ever going to even see it besides you.

The thread where people show off their filtration set ups is one of my favorite.
I
I'm actually going to get a 2262 because I think I need it. Right now I've been cleaning my fx5 every two to four weeks. I have the xp4 that doesn't seem to be much help. I actually just added two aquaclear 110s to help with the mechanical filtration. I am being honest that it does make me smile when I open one of my cabinets and see either the fx5 or the 2080 so getting a 2262 will be partially because I think it looks cool. I do think it'll filter nicely and not having to clean it so often sounds pretty good. I know Harley K doesn't clean his for a year. I do agree that I find some of his post very interesting and informative. His praise of the 2262 and eheim in general are what made me consider one. I do think his bias for Eheim clouds his judgment on really being able to suggest any type of filter. He seems unjustly hard on the fx5 for its shortcomings and will make excuses or justify the shortcomings of a 2262 he likes them so he's willing to live with it. Most of people one or two fx5s is plenty for their tank so it's hard to justify suggesting one or two 2262s in their place. Most people know that having a bunch of extra bio media is useless so telling someone they should get one or two 2262s for a 210 gallon aquarium is telling them to waste their money. Unless they have like 400 inches of fish in there. I do look forward to getting a 2262 and seeing how it works for me.

aaronb I am going to speak from both worlds. As you can see in my signature and tanks I run the Eheims 2217, 2250, 2260, 2262. I also run the Fluvals 405, FX5. I got a little lost with your debate with Harley K. But let me throw in my perspective. This is a hobby and all hobbies rip us off to some degree and the makers of equipment know of our love and passion for what we are into. So it is important to spend wisely. I am a loyal Hagen customer as you can see. I am also a loyal Eheim customer. I have been at this for over 25 years. My Eheim 2260's are 15 and 13 years old. Never had a problem have not even had to replace seal ring. The 2217's at least 11 years old had problem with one that I forgot to fill with water and the pump burned up (can not blame the maker). The 2250, 2262 10 years old. The classic series Eheim is the only filter where 100% of water passes thru all the media since it enters at the bottom. There design and durability makes them there worth and gold. The Fluvals are not bad filters and I am a little more pleased than before. I think a lot of people got caught up in the design of the FX5 before ever even using one. The Fluval 405 is my 4th which I recieved as a customer service gesture from a Hagen rep due to the fact I was able to show him the other 3 that broke due to manufacturing defect, which he was aware of. The design that is on the market now is not the design I had. The FX5 is not a bad filter I just wish they used a better media. Those sponges will have to be replaced probably every 2 - 3 years. Which brings us back to the Eheim and durability. I have never had to replace Eheim media. Do I expect to ever get 10 - 15 years out of the Fluvals. No! Would I think someone is crazy for buying a Fluval over a Eheim. No.! You just need to understand what you are giving up and if you are happy in the end then good. If you like it I love it. Yes I agree with Harley K that the Eheim classic is the best filter ever made. To make a simple comparison the Fluval is a cadillac, the Eheim is a Rolls Royce. This is just another opinion from someone with 25 years experience.

i think he is just trying to be funny .... wow guys chill out lol

I agree...I thought he was poking fun.

Yeah I was trying to just be funny. I am seriously going to get a 2262 in a few months. I just thought the eheim vs fluval, fx5 vs 2262 or 2080 arguments were silly and the way some people think eheim is the only thing worth buying too. I was just trying to be over the top with my desire to be cool. It seems even that was somehow lost on some people though.

Obviously you are extremely mistaken as all the cool kids have multiple XP3s.

Well I have an xp3 and xp4, so I'm trying! See my idea for supreme coolness is to attack from all fronts. I've been looking into a sump for a different tank so I can get that angle covered too. I just thought the 2262 was so big I could stand tall on top of it and look down on my kingdom of overfiltering coolness.

So if a bunch of dork said cool kids don't use filter, you join in?

My advice?

Make your decision base on what is best for the fish and not because others are doing it

This.. :headbang2:headbang2

I have combinations of the XP series and they are all great. Although would love an FX5, just think my Renas are doing great right now, and they only get cleaned every couple of months.

Do think it is funny that you are attempting to be "Cool" on a fish website. Seems like a waste of money to me. I'm sure your younger and are moochin off mom and pops still though so do what you want.
