I have also heard that you can use vasoline, but it does break down the rubber seal. I have also heard about using chapstick, but that one Im not sure about. Eheim sells a silicone lube, but the bottle is super small and its expensive.

Can you believe how pricey the Impeller assembly is? 80-90 bux depending on who has one at the time.
I have the 2180 same as your 2080, but mine has the 500watt built-in heater. I run the bottom tray FULL of efimech and the next 2 trays full of efistratPRO 2 white pads then a blue Pad on top

I had never recommended using Vaseline until I saw this question answered by Eheim.
official Eheim (eng) FAQ's said:Q: #07. How do I service sealing rings?
Answer: Each time you clean the filter, lubricate the sealing rings lightly with our aquatic maintenance spray 4001000 or with ordinary petroleum jelly (Vaseline). This increases the lifespan of the rubber sealings considerably and ensures easy mounting.
But thanks for posting that for us!
