Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Growth Journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A couple days ago sadly my electric blue passed away for no apparent reason no fin marks or damage at all ate normally all other fish where fine water was perfect
That was my experiences w ebjd. I haven't found one here that stayed healthy. Just stopped eating and died.

Unfortunately mine passed as well. He was extremely small and the other fish were growing significantly faster. He had some little white spots that looked like wounds but he was pretty much ignored by the larger fish.

Regardless I moved him into a separate tank to let him grow out and treat with medicine just in case the white spots were an infection of some sort. About 5 days later he had a change in behavior and ultimately didn't make it. Might try again with another one or two ebjd but we'll see.

Unfortunately this appears a common trend with EBJD - very few make it to full adult size. Although frustrating, to me, this makes it a very rewarding fish when you do finally get a good one. I'll update with the next monthly photo and size next week.

What happened to your EBA?

Unfortunately the pair had been kept in an African cichlid tank in the fish shop so fins were in a bad state. Both were about 1 inch then. The one in the photo is now around 3.5 inches but fins are repairing very slowly if at all. Whereas the other is growing much slower in comparison and is around 2.5 inches but fins are completely repaired.

I'm not sure why?

Quick snap of the two of them taken just now for comparison, sorry for the poor quality.
