Where did the recessive blue gen start.

it would have to be some blind luck that two natural JDs happen to be born with some genetic anomaly find each other and breed and create ebjds.

that was the point to the story I told you above: it was just dumb luck, some guy in Argentina noticed the pale fry in his spawns, and decided to separate them out to see what they were

if he had not done that, they would not have survived and this post would not exist . . .

I'm not sure what it is about this that is so hard to get . . . ?

Thats the story anyway...more like the guy from argintina line bred them because i have read these colour morphs have been around since 1988, but they are a recent addition to the trade, so I can imagine the guy spent years line breeding much like the weaker Red Spotted Severum was created.

he supposedly made his "discovery" in 1985 . . . I found a nice link on AllThingsDempsey that explains it . . .

one note: I got it wrong, it was Uruguay, not Argentina . . . so close!

They are not line bred. If they were, 2 Blue Gene Carriers could not produce fry that were electric blue AND standard looking in the same spawn. As stated before its a recessive gene.

I agree with the blind luck. Do a search for the Xanthic Jag on this forum.....That was blind luck too!

It should have happened again in the trade, i dont trust that he just happend to stumble upon it and the same anomaly has not occurred for any one else. If the blue gene is common enough in the wild that some guy was lucky enough to catch 2 and have em breed in the aquarium it should have happened again.

see, when you say things like that, I have no idea what you are talking about . . . what, exactly, is your point :screwy:

there are hundreds - - maybe thousands - - of people breeding EBJDs, it's common practice . . . any idiot can buy a pair of blue-gene Jack Dempseys and start his own little breeding experiment

EBJDs are bred all the time . . . this guy just happened to be the first . . . and you have a problem with that?

what do you think, someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes and trick you into buying a hybrid fish?

educate yourself, stop making inane statements . . .

Its not rocket science try to follow along.

Take two wild JDs and get ebjds from them, since the blue gene is not man made some wild jds should carry it. If ebjd is not man made you should be able to get ebjds from a wild jd pair. Understand ?

Thus my point is if they are natural as you all say some JD breeder NOT BGJD EBJD/JD but two normal wild caught JD breeder should have gotten a few EBJD and ran to a fish forum to tell of his find.

I don't care if its a hybrid or not, but given the money that these fish go for and the elitist fish keeper attitude towards hybrids. It would not surprise me is some one was pulling wool over your eyes.

Do you not get it, basically the guy took two normal JDs had them breed and got ebjds he just happen to notice them. If it is that natural you SHOULD be able to get ebjds from a wild pair of JDs. It be super rare but it also should have happend more then once in the hobby.

I find it a bit suspicious no one else has ever gotten a few ebjds from their wild natural pure JD spawn. (not bgjd ebjd as they all date back to this guys fish)

I agree.
