Well where i work we are bringing in a 2ft electric eel and i really want it, i have a 6x2x2 tank which i can move fish out of for the eel, i know how to keep my monsters what i want to know if how long could it live for in there, i know that they are inactive. and just how dangerous are they?

And are they worth it? I wont get bored of it as i have a 2 ftlungfish thats inactie and fish like that dont bother me.

Thanks guys!

I've never kept one, but there is a big one 2-3' at a LFS in Sacramento. It's been there for years and lives in a 6' tank. It's relatively interactive and seems happy.

It's basically a brown eel in a bare tank. The employees don't like to clean the tank for fear of getting the s shocked out of them.

There alot more active then you might think. Othey settle in(takes a few days), They are more active and will beg for food. Make sure that there is space from the top of the tank they like to come up for air. Also make sure the lid is secure, they will excape

Yeah the tank is very secure as it was made for my lungfish but hes got pride of place in my 5x2x2, i have some large pieces of glay piping for it too hide.

we had a memeber that had a 6' electric not to long ago. if you go to youtube and search oiho sate electic eel that's the one he had. He would be one to contact. i'll try to find his SN for ya

I hate getting static shocks during the winter time when I close my car door...I would HATE to worry about getting shocked during a weekly water change or something.

I saw a show a while ago where they interviewed the keepers in an aquarium and they talked about being thrown off their feet by an adult electric eel's shock. I can't imagine that would be very fun, but it would be an awesome fish to have. The only time I saw one for sale, I luckily didn't have the $200 they wanted for it, so I was not at all tempted...lol
