First of all, this is in the wrong thread. An electric eel isnt an eel and they are knifefish

and

they can kill you!!!

and

my lfs got baby one forsale 2-4" $40 each

sorry but that statement is very unfair... maybe a fully grown 8'er could kill someone with a very weak heart, or an elderly person but a young fit person no chance! not even at 6'! ive been shocked by a 3'er and it was not much to winge about, yeah it hurt for 5secs and could feel it in my arm for a while but didnt even take me from my feet...

Yes they are knifes tho ill give you that... :D

bruce haviung said what i have, id suggest you think long and hard about it! miguel and Matt are right even if they are not fatal they are still dangerous... If u are serious, i know of a 40cm one in country for around £100 could prob do something with the price if its for you as its with a friend.... and that would give u a lil more time before the upgrade was nesacray...

E-eels are active once settled, they dont like heavy traffic in front of tanks hence why in shops they are quite still but beleave, once settled in to a quiet tank they are quite the opisite!

I hate getting static shocks during the winter time when I close my car door...I would HATE to worry about getting shocked during a weekly water change or something.
Its not pleasent:shocked:

Doubledragon (have'nt seen him on for a while) had the 6'er. I was going to get it for the 300g but decided against it. He could'nt give it away. No zoo's nothing. I would suggest against it. Very high maintanence, and the 300 was'nt big enough IMO.

It really depends on how much they want to discharge. Seems that the average discharge they can release is 500 volts. That's definitely a stinger. Also depends on how much amps are in each discharge. Static shocks along can generate up to a 1000 volts, but there's a very low amp reading behind those shocks. Electric Eels can deliver up to 1 amp which is good enough to kill a man. Size of the Eel doesn't have much to do with whether it can kill you or not, it's a matter of how much will it discharge on you.

That video is freaking awesome!! I love the way he moves!!
This made me consider one for my 240G that is up and coming. However, I'm a baby.. and don't want to get shocked. So screw that. I'm not doing it.

Well where i work we are bringing in a 2ft electric eel and i really want it, i have a 6x2x2 tank which i can move fish out of for the eel, i know how to keep my monsters what i want to know if how long could it live for in there, i know that they are inactive. and just how dangerous are they?

And are they worth it? I wont get bored of it as i have a 2 ftlungfish thats inactie and fish like that dont bother me.

Thanks guys!

Hold on here, you want to keep a 2ft fish in a tank that has a width of only 2 foot? It would be 15 point turns for that fish in order to go in the opposite direction.:screwy:
That video of the eel in this thread is ridiculous it has trouble catching the fish to start with as its in such a tiny space.
