right on man!!

did u get the EEs from Charles?

he kept 3, 3'ers in a 40 breeder for a while and they were happy! i saw for my self..

this guy reminds me of the guy i was arguing with on BCA...

You really think a three foot EE would be happy in a 40 gallon? That's horrible.

I'm simply stating the truth. 500 gallons is not a waste, if you don't have the resources don't keep the fish. If you want to keep fish in sub-par conditions, go ahead, but don't spread your bad advice to others.

Well I'm in favor of giving a good life to pet fish, I'm not sure about what your opinions are. Regardless of the activity levels on an EE, it still needs more space than you are giving to yours. If you think it's a waste to give a huge tank to a fish that requires it, please don't give suggestions like that to others on this website.

Nabbig is sooo right. king-el keeping real monsters in totaly inadequate tanks is horrible, imagine the life of this fish barely having space to turn around...
Trying to make people waste there money?:irked:

Thankyou, finally somebody who sees the importance of the well being of the fish. It's unfortunate people like king-el are cramming monster fish in such small aquariums.

For whatever it's worth, I've kept electric eels for sometime. Yes, they are very inactive for most of the time during the day. Mine were very active after the lights went out. I'd never keep a fish in a tank that wasn't wider than the fish is long. In my experience, if the fish is forced to touch the glass when turning around, then it doesn't have enough room. Again I see comments like "in the wild" vs "in captivity" for max size. I will repeat one of my favorite phrases:

If it doesn't get to it's full wild size in captivity, then you are doing something wrong.

Lol! BTW you don't have the best tank! You should think about saving your money before you regret it not having any and let your fish starve to death which is even more cruel thing to do.:screwy:

If I have space at home, yes I'll put an EE to a 500g but I'm saving my budget to provide for my other fish so I keep my 3 feet long EE to 125g temporary and later move it to 180g. EEs are very fixable and won't have a problem turning in a 180g. Not only that they freaked out to often if keep in a large tank. When my EE were used to be in a 180g and it was only 10", and it freaked out more. Moved it to 125g and it started to calm down and will even catch its food. When it grew to 20", I move it back to 180g again and it started to freaked out again. So right now it's in a 125g tank as it feel comfortably. I wasn't the only one who got the same experience, one person who bought an EE the same time as I did it in a 210g tank and it also freaked out more in a bigger tank.

As I said before you should start keeping EE and put it in a 500g tank. That's when you start saying something that 500g tank is a minimum.

Even in the wild they rarely get up to 9 feet and mostly around 6 feet. In captivity they grow a lot smaller. 4-5 feet most likely. It's not just that we are doing something wrong, we are not able to match what mother nature does in the wild. We simply just try out best that we can afford.
