$90? Try $900 for a cheap 180 gallon setup at most places. The tank by itself is like $600...

i want a sarasa comet!!!! my sister has a comet in with 2 oscars. it's just as big as both 6" oscars so they never bother it.

the idiot finally did a wc, but now hasnt fed them in a week...idiot...
btw liveaquaria says that Sarasa Comets need 190 gallons.

Shouldn't sarassa comets be considered the same as other common goldfish? It is generally accepted (by most non bowl people) that 30 gallons is enough for 2 fancy goldfish, and 55 is good for 2-3 commons. I know it is not exactly optimum for the goldfish (yes I am aware that they can get over 1 foot) But it is certainly more likely that he will try to care for them a bit better if it was 55 or even 29 gallon that it was said he needed. 190 is not going to fly well with his parents and they will likely think you are some kind of nut. :( I am not allowed to set up a third tank. I beat around the bush suggesting maybe I could move the fish in my 30 gallon into the 70 and then buy a 150 and move the fish in the 70 to it. It didn't work.

You could try and find a free tank in the area above 30 gallons and see if he will accept the gift. You could probably find one fairly easily in a fair sized city like near Brooklyn... or even scower all of New York City for a huge free tank. Craig'slist and classified adds on the internet or newspaper or garage sales are great places to get a tank for almost free. The school might even have one not set up in the science lab or a closet.

I dunno if it would work but if he doesn't accept a free large tank then you could ask if you could have them. (EDIT: guess you tried that) He prolly doesn't care about them and you could rescue the lil guys. Are they still alive? I'll go search the thread to see if I can find the tank size they are in.

Oh, L.I.B they are in a ~2 gallon wal-mart special. That's pretty bad.

i keep 24 comets in a 10 gallon at a time.... fortunately they arent in there for long!!! they turn into snacks. However, goldfish have their good qualities. Your friend should probably put them in an actual tank like 55 gallons for the remaining two. Lets be realistic about the tank size. 2 small deformed goldies in a 55 would flat suck though. If he is going to neglect thier home size he should at least keep the water clean. Go over there one day and say you found them dead and flushed them, but really bring a bag and take them home or to the LFS yourself. If it makes you feel better, a buddy of mine told me a story of when he was younger he had a fair goldfish in a bowl and ran out of food, so he put some dr pepper in there to feed it every day and wound up with brown water and a dead fish.

sorry to bump but i have an update
hes used the aqua plus i gave him a few times
hasnt fed it in "two months" dont believe him, probably just tryin to piss me off
still in a .6 (?) gallon tank
about 4''
:(
poor fish

A goldfish will live in a 75 gallon w/o too many problems...

I had a friend with a similar situation. Kept 2 fantails in a 5gal but did daily 20% wc, but they died every time. Kept blaming it on his own crappy job of feeding... Had potential as a fishkeeper too...
