skjl47, Many cities have replaced the use of chlorine with chlorine with chloramine, which will not gas off, and must be removed chemically.
Do you know anything about manaus?

Why not the whole story...
Don't make it sound like I am abusing my fish, or like its a secret, but I will tell you that I will wait for a few days until I can put the photos up and write the full article. I was also in a rush and I won't post it here, It will be in the Peacock bass section.

dump a big cap-full or 2 of dechlore in the tank.. otherwise the only way to really know is to test for it. Never had a problem w/ ODing on the water conditioner.. Ever.
One problem, its a pond and I did a 100% waterchange and a medium size thing of dechlorinatore is over 20 bux. I have a tiny bit left but it wouldnt have been enough for the pond.
I put the fish in a few hours later, I really need a chlorine tester!

well pretty much any walmart or any store that sells any swimming pool supplies will have a chlorine tester.

Hello; Did a search on manaus. Results were about town in Brazil at the juncture of two rivers. I do not understand the reference.

I think he was just asking if we knew if his town had chlorine or chloramine. I also looked and could not find any published water reports, but alot of countries out side the us have less then stellar regulations about the water. In the states if they serve more then 50 people they have to post publicly the water reports.

I just wish my LFS sold a test kit to tell me how much chloramine and chlorine there actually is in my my water. I'm probably wasting a lot of Prime, and it's not cheap.

well I personally think prime is cheap. But if you have larger bodies of water like a pond then you should be using dry dechlorinators like CrystalClear Vanish or Pura ChlorLock. Treats lots of water for very cheap but is to strong for anything under 1000 gallons. Fro example the pura chlorlock 1lb container treats 25k gallons, the same amount that 2.5 liters of prime could treat.

http://www.amazon.com/PURA-ChlorLock-Treats-000-gallon/dp/B0017JHJTI 5.99 + shipping

Here is the Vanish info

Application Rates
5 tsp. Treats 5,000 Gallons
10 tsp. Treats 10,000 Gallons
15 tsp. Treats 15,000 Gallons

Comes in a 8 oz and 2 lb. sizes. Eight ounces will treat up to 48,000 gallons of water (5 tsps. Treats 5,000 Gallons). Two pounds will treat up to 192,000 gallons of water.

The 2lbs is like 25.00 plus shipping.

OMG! What the hell is that?! Can that really be used in aquaria?!

I have super small measuring spoons dash, pinch, and smidgen, after doing the math I think I will convert to using Vanish 25.00 could be a life time supply for me and if my math is right two dashes is 1/4 of a tsp so if 1 tsp is 1000G 1/4 should be 250 gallons.

Its made for that both products I normally hear of the ChlorLock but the vanish is new to me

I'm under the impression I got a sarcastic response to my last attempt at trying to help the OP, But if we're talking about a pond, the amount of surface area of the water should allow any remaining chlorine to gas-off pretty quickly. Much faster than it would in a tank.

After some research I worry ChlorLock may not filter chloramines since I can't find any place that it says it does so I assume it can't but I could be wrong.

The Vanish on the other hand will remove both.
