My one and half year old albino oscar in a 40 gallon tank is not eating for the past 5 days since 13.11.2025. she is staying at the bottom of the tank and opening her gills wide open. The temperature is also at 79 F.
I did 50 percent water change on 15.11.2025 and added one fritz paracleanse sachet but no improvement. I added some rock salt along with small amount of garlic extract on 16.11.2025. I think she gasped some air while eating her pellet. She’s also not swimming straight.

Kindly help me.

Sorry to hear you’re having troubles. The 40g aquarium size needs to be addressed at some point as it’s simply too small. With that out of the way I know you mentioned a water change but to start we need what the actual water parameters are. Please let the forum know the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. If you don’t have a proper test kit such as the API master kit take your water to a local fish store to get the results.

My local aquarium doesn’t have the kit, it takes a long for the order to arrive, i tried feeding banana using a stick but she didn’t respond, she is moving away from it.

she likes banana the most.

Ok but they could tested your water. No one will be able to answer your questions without providing the basic water parameters as those cause the majority of health problems. Your fish is exhibiting numerous symptoms as well as being severely stunted as an ocellatus that’s 18 months old should be easily 9-12”. Don’t take this personally but if you’re unable to provide short and long term care I’d personally euthanize the fish.
