I currently have a 75 gallon with 2 emporer 400's. I like the Emporers with a biowheel. But when I get a 125, I'm not sure which would be a better way to go, Emporers or AC 110. I thought either 3 Emporer 400, or maybe 2 AC 110's. I kind of like to overfilter the tanks whenever possible. My fish, a 14 inch Jag/Dovii hybrid is a very good eater and a bit messy with his food sometimes. I don't know enough about AC 110's to know how effective they are or easy to take care of. Noise is not that much of a factor, the tank is in the living room. I kind of feel for the larger tank, I probably need to go with the 110's. Any other kinds of HOB filters that would be good? Also reasonably priced for the filter and media?

Ac110 are great filters quiet and move alot of water. Do you have to get new filters or are you just looking to add to what you.have? Me personally I would get a reasonably priced canister to use for bio and keep the emperors for mechanical. If you have to go hob then use your emps and add a ac110. Far as bio media I use the bioballs from marineland they are cheap.

I would use to AC110 and the biowheel.but you do have other choices, get 1 big canister,1 AC,then put a circulation pump somewhere for movement.definitely buy online for best prices

I also like AC110's. I use a piece of filter pad cut to size under the sponge. This way I just rinse the sponge in a bucket of tank water and replace the filter pad it keeps the sponge cleaner. I would use the two emps and add the 110. If you already have the 400's use them and add a 110.

I used to have a canister, a Magnum Hot and it worked good, but was a pain to break down and clean. I haven't looked at canisters in quite a while, maybe I should. The 2 Emporers I have will remain on the 75, I'll leave that set up for some new occupants. That will be the next project after I get the bigger tank set up and Jag moved. I'll have to decorate and decide what will go in it.

If you only use the canister for bio you will no have to break into it too often to clean it. Dont you just love new tanks, decisions, decisions. Either way you cant go wrong. Ive always prefered hob as mechanical and canisters for bio because of the larger capacity. He will sure be happy in his larger home.

I was just looking at canisters on Dr Foster and Smith. They aren't too expensive. I just don't know much about them anymore. For a larger tank, I might have to go a different route, than I have in the past. I am just about decided to go with the AC 110 for a hob. Any particular canister you would suggest for a 125?

I use rena filstar xp4 they work real good easy to take apart and not too expensive. Alot of people have been using aquatop i believe it is they are cheap and have got good reviews and i think they have uv too. If you want to spend the $ then fuval fx5 is great. Good decision on the ac110 youll be happy with it.

I Personally like rena xp4 they are easy to clean and on sale on petmountian.com. I use a xp4 and an ac110 on my 125.

I've used emperors and a/c's. They are both good but I think the a/c is best. I'm an Eheim fan when it comes to canisters. However, I would be open to checking out some of the cheaper brands that are getting good reveiws.
