Emporer 400's or AC 110s for a 125 tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only problem I can see with using a powerhead on sponges is my big jag. He won't leave intake tubes on his filters now. How do I keep him from messing with powerheads? When I do move a filter, I am going to start siliconing the intake tube on. I'll see if he can take those off! I also am thinking I may have to silicone the sponge bases onto a rock or something to keep jag from knocking them over. I can see the sponges as an inexpensive backup and just a little extra filtration. No such thing as too much filtration.
Ihave the same situation with a black belt....but he doesnt touch the powerhead .....just hob intake

I just gave up on the intake tubes and let Jag have them. He moves them around the tank like toys. I also have fishing floats attached to weights for him to rearrange whenever he wants. I've had blackbelts before, one -10inches- had quite the attitude. Beat the heck out of another blackbelt and took on the jag I had at that time.

ya ,this guys with a con and a raphy in a75 ....he thinks he's king kong

I can't even keep a pleco with my jag. He kills anything put in with him. Jag thinks the entire living room is his territory. I can be at the comp desk in there and he watches every move I make. Guess instead of a watch dog, I have a watch fish. I bet your blackbelt is nice looking, mine had really nice color and markings. Definitely was the ruler of the tank. Personality is what sets cichlids apart from other fish I grew up keeping.

yes thank you ,I think he's good looking.I think I'M lucky I put him with the other fish when I first got him,if I tried to introduce a new fish now it surely would be trouble...its still kind of an adventure at feeding time as it is

My first 55, I put any cichlid I could find in it. I had a jag, green terrors, blackbelts- 1 that was supposed to be a synspilum- a chocolate, jewels, a geophagus, and the rainbows that got me changed over to cichlids. As they grew up, that crowd thinned pretty quickly. But ended up with a fairly nice group, even if it wasn't the most peaceful tank around. Was never boring to watch. I would never try that group again, knowing what I know now.

My first 55 way back 10 years ago I had a jag, red devil, oscar, jack dempsey, and a pacu. Moved them to a 75 and was fine for 2 years then sold all but the jag and breed her til she was killed by the males. Jags rule!!!

I like big aggressive fish. I don't have the space for an indoor pond for a dovii, but if I could... I found my jag as a trade in from a lfs. He had been tearing up a 75. I set mine up to let him have it any way he wants. 2 emp. 400's and 2 sponges might be overkill for only 1 fish in the 75, but it can't hurt to have a little extra setup that I can run on a battery back up. I'm still thinking about getting the ac 110's, at least one for a bigger tank.
