Can you clarify your question for me please? If I think I know where your going, the background will not clog. Water does not flow through it, water flows above it. I cut the height down to be below the water line. I can use a canister or HOB with thid setup. I'll take a picture of how everything fits and post it for you later tonight.

If I time things right I figure I can rotate my stock through each tank and renovate them one at a time. Then maybe the daemons and ferns will quit whining about their austere home.
Thanks for the kind words Ravyn! I have the below to basically keep me on track. I am in thew same boat and having to move stock around to install all the backgrounds. Trust me I'm just getting styarted with the ideas. Wait until I get to the driftwood.

I am just waiting for my 120 to get delivered to get going..
24 hours: clean out 10g/research stocklist
48 hours: install background, let silicone cure.
24 hours: 120g gets delivered, cleaned prepped and overflow plumbed/dry.
48 hours: install background, let silicone cure.
24 hours: move fish in 300g to 120g and let 300g dry out/finish sump.
48 hours: install background, let silicone cure. Install acrylic overflow towers.
24 hours: move fish/FX5's back to 300g, build new 120g stand/stain move into the house.
24 hours: move fish from 125g to 120g and let 125g dry out/install sump/plumbing.
48 hours: install background, let silicone cure.
24 hours: split up and move stock between 125g and 120g.
24 hours: Cut FX5 hoses on 300g/install 40watt UV/Cut FX5 hoses on 120g/Install 18watt UV.
Takes long nap...............
