both junk....top fin heaters suck

where do I start!?
Okay pretty much anything Central Pet & Garden makes, owns etc. They own half of the industry including ESU(coralife) AllGlass (now Aqueon, dumb name, Oceanic tanks etc.. Since this giant has bought up these and others the product lines have gone to crap & quality along with it. Try making returns as a retailer or small wholesaler. They do not want their crap back & do not want to deal with it. I have been in my business 17 years & working it for over 24 & hobbist for over 30. Its unbelievable what is happening in our industry, hobby. Central stock is down about 60%! Hmmm wonder why?
The pet industry is not much owned by the pet industry anymore. Its own by pharmacy, battery companys & so on that I do not think have a clue about the hobby anymore! This is another reason independent stores are also closing not just because box of crap stores or internet but the business in general & what we have to deal with. There is days I just want to close the door & say beepbeepbeep.....:nilly:
Note the penguin line is discontinued!
Okay had to vent, sorry...

definitely agree. all the stuff i find in the stores as far as tanks has crappy seels (at least newer ones do) and lots of new heaters made by the names u listed are bad. the industry is heading into a depression...

I'm sure most everyone will disagree here, but a few products I've had bad luck with thus far:

Rena XP4: Hasn't broken on me, but after using the FX5, this thing is junk. The push together uptake tubes fall apart, the clear hoses look good to begin with, but only for about 2 weeks - black would be a better choice. The priming operation is a load of crap too. the FX5 will self prime if you put a bit of water in the filter to start. The XP4 you get this *** little funnel and you're supposed to manually fill up the suction line so it starts a siphon.

Hydor Koralia 4: stopped working entirely, although hydor has offered to replace it, and everyone else seems to have good luck with this. It was a good little powerhead until it quit.

Pentair Aquatics Quietone 9000: Anything but quiet. It pumps a lot of water but man it sounds like a 2-stroke engine. I even had it warrantied and it's still noisey as an airplane.

to me all the Marineland Penguins ....All start crapping out and i always gotta shoot out the impellers. and sometimes the "bio wheel" falls off and doesnt even spin.

I have a couple of Penguins that are over 10 yrs old and still running with very little problems. they just lack in mech department compared to Aquaclears

all-glass heater stink indeed. I have never had good luck with sedra pumps either. also, I have had to replace 2 ballasts in my coralife aqualights....
