Equipment to stay away from

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a aquca clear 110 power filter it is the best filter i ever had.

I gave up on Coralife timers. I had 3 or 4 of them one after the other and they all stopped working the same way. Horrible quality.
Now I just use regular timers, works great and cost about the same also.

MLD Magnum 350 stupid O ring can be clean as a whistle and still turn the can into an on the floor fountain. I have to agree with the penguin powerhead complaints too, the impellers even well maintained still tend to seperate magnet from prop all the time. Red Sea Berlin turbo, I've replaced 2 impellers in less than 6 months, that skimmer now sits on display in a basement storage room. suck clown skimmers ....need I say more? All glass Light fixtures ...whos' brainless idea was it to not have starters on these anymore. half these things don't even start new out of the box. Hydor Bio flow rotating deflector, Great idea great execution pi** poor construction, the gears stop catching after one month after two the plug that holds it to the pump drys out and starts falling off every other day.

you're right this does feel good.

In my experience, Marineland/Perfecto products are questionable. Their fluorescent fixtures, tanks, and tank covers are much more flimsy than the equivalent offerings from All-Glass/Aqueon. My Marineland 3000 air pump started making a good amount of noise after a few months of use although the output is still good. My Marineland Deluxe 50w Heater after working fine for a year suddenly boiled my tetras alive in my 10 gallon, my Deluxe 200w has been working fine for 2+ years but obviously has water entering the inner chambers where the temperature setting slide is. I would take an All-Glass/Aqueon tank over a Marineland/Perfecto tank any day, with all things being equal of course.

I know this is everyones favorite filter but ac110. I have a ac500 that has been running flawlessly for 10yrs. So when it came time to buy new HOB's for my new tank the question was answered with a tried and true filter AC. I then ordered 2 from dr.fosters and they were nothing but junk. Right out of the box one of them would not start pumping. After i plugged and unplugged it 4-6 times i then took out the impeller to inspect it and I couldn't find anything so i put it back together and refilled the filter again and still nothing but a humming sound. The second AC110 works but as soon as it looses its suction the party is over and you have to take it apart and start over again and again. I solved the problem by returning the filter that did not work and buying my 2nd favorite filter the emporer400. I still have one ac110I just cannot do a big WC on that tank or i know I will have to take the filter apart. As for emperor I have one that is a few months old and a smaller 280 that is 4 years old and i can't tell a difference in quality with them. I guess AC has gone cheap on US.

stay away form anything broken unless your willing to fix it. i have yet to come across anything that sucks real bad. you can say "you get what you pay for." for the most part atleast.
