There is a reason i stick to only native fish keeping. people seem to care more about their fish. Not only do i catch my own fish (None of the fish i have ever owned have been farmed or store bought) I also strive to make my tank look as natural to them as possible. It is full of SAND YES A SUBSTRATE, rocks and lots of live plants. Once people stop caring about the rights of the fish they start to over stock them, collect monster fish, and put them in tanks with no rocks substrate plants or anything, just more monster fish that are bored as hell probably.
I hope I understand you correctly. According to what you just posted, catching a fish, put it in a tank, and strive to make the tank looks "AS natural to them AS POSSIBLE" is caring about the rights of the fish?

It only gets you, because that what's in your head. They don't think their fish or tanks are special, or do it to gain admirers. They don't think they're special, or some fishkeeping elite. You think all of those. You are one of those people who sees someone's tank or fish and the only thing you can think of is money, and develop all kind of wild idea in your head. This is a fish forum, so I go here to post fish, talk about fish, learn fish keeping. I'm not worry about other's money or what they do with their money here. I'm sure there're some other forums out there for that kind of talk, but here, it's all about fish to me. You don't like that, it's your problem. Not so long ago, you thought people with big tank need Python to do water change. That's how much you know about fish keeping.

Very valid Post. I hate how some members here seem to compare their insides to the outsides of Others. This is the only place I have ever been real world or forum, fish or otherwise where people throw out the word jealous like it's a compliment. ie, Someone starts a thread about a beautifull tank/fish... and someones sure to post "I'm so jealous". It Baffles me as jealousy is an undesirable trait. And to call someone High and Mighty etc. when that person has never declared that themselves. Lets me know that there is more to the equation than just fish. Sometimes aldiaz33 irks me with his talk about getting bigger tanks or overstocking. His tank is big and Well thought out (understocked). I realize that I can't hold his rants against him. Because he practices what he Preaches. Ya'll can go ahead a butt heads some more. If Mods aint gonna lock this. everyone might as well air this thing out. I encourage some of You vocal members of the fish coalition to stop through the lounge every once in a while. I would love to hear some of Ya'lls passionate thoughts when it comes to the comedy/tragedy of the people we discuss there.

Half of this is talking about ethics, half of this is talking about who is a better keeper along with personal attacks and pointing fingers. Lets keep it on track and keep it civil

Unfortunately the two are inseparable. I agree with being civil. But Hey...

dont worry, he is probably poor. also aldezi guy never showed how jumbo the tank was. just dead fish. anyone can show dead fish.

I agree, if you are more ethical than you probably also have better keeping practices.

I believe trying to recreate natural environments is also at the heart of ethical keeping. We do this with all species. Most people agree that if you keep brids, they should be able to fly
Horses run in fields
Desert herps given sand, heat, etc.

So why is it a stretch to say that it is wrong to catch your own fish and try to recreate its natural habitat? It has already been said that we are all selfish to that degree for keeping animals at all. But there is that difference. If you keep animals, you shouldnt keep them in bare glass with no decor. I did mention that I can be happy in a smaller house, but I would appreciate some furniture and perhaps carpet would be nice

In some cases I would argue about How many people can live in a bed room But there are some benefits even though you dont have a large enough tank. Now what i mean by large enough is like Seriously too small, like a arowana in a 5 gallon. But This is one of my arguements... Its better to have a larger tank than the pet store... Think about how small the pet store tanks are. Not to mention they dont even Feed them as much as they need. They just feed enough to keep them from starving to death. Most of the fish that you see in a local pet store such as Petsmart are kept in small tanks. Really skinny. Bad conditioned. And malnutritioned. But yes, there is the argument that other people will buy the fish who have large enough tanks... But How long would that take? Though One pet peve of mine is listening to a "aquatic Specialist" from petsmart telling people wrong info and being stupid.

You may not understand the difference between ethical and justification. Trying, better are used to justify your action. What makes you think that it's better for a fish to live in a tank with substrate and decoration than in a bare tank? In some case, a fish could get hurt or killed by substrate and decoration. What's so ethical about that? It's like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet, gulped as much food as you can, and drink water or diet soda will do your body some good deed

Also, people who keep birds don't believe they should fly. They believe bird wings should properly clipped, and letting bird fly in your house is irresponsible, and could kill bird. People who keep horses so they can ride, not just letting them run in the field. The ones who believe birds should fly or horse should run in the field won't keep them
