Eurobracing your DIY Glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The lap joints may be distracting/ugly.

I'm going to build a small, lightweight canopy to place on top that will have the lights to hide the seams. My current plywood tank is just a bit box in my living room. I feel doing this will look more like an aquarium. May even just do a thin piece of 1x2 to cover the seam since it's 3/4" glass.

It won't. If you don't have a lid on that tank you will have a wet floor everyday at feeding time.

So will it be bottom drilled for a sump or will you just run the Matten filter?

Closed loop Ultima II behind the matten filter. Also going to pre drill and install a stealthbox and returns in the middle of the back wall for a sump in the future. It will initially be used for the auto water change.

Lepisosteus Lepisosteus What are the dimensions of the tank pic you posted? It's beautiful. I'd love to build something almost identical. Could you tell me the details like thickness, size etc? Anything helpful would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Lepisosteus Lepisosteus . After looking at your tank, i am really intent on getting a bigger tank. The one i have now is 54in x 18in x 18in and is made with 3/8ths glass but i want to go bigger. Where im from though nobody builds tanks over 100g. Id trust them to assemble it but not design it. Id like a tank thats 54 x 25 x 22 (LxWxH). The thickest glass i can get is 1/2in. What do i need to get a tank as neat as yours but with these specs? Id pretty much tell the builder what you say. Any help from you or anyone who knows tanks would be most appreciated. I really dont want this tank to fail.
