Ever feel odd about fish????

Phew, for a second there I was afraid you were going to admit to having some 'odd' feelings about fish that might force someone to report you to the authorities :)

Seriously though, I get this from people at the office all the time.

I find people get more into it if you have some funny stories to tell since people always have stupid dog/silly cat tales of their own - I've got some great tales about a Chocolate cichlid I managed to resuscitate by dunking it like a teabag and another about one of my birds almost getting eaten by one of my huge Oscars or the time one of the Oscars bit onto my GFs finger while she was feeding them and she pulled him out of the tanks screaming her lungs out but then went straight into a panic trying to save the fish.

I've got mountains of books and like 2000 dvds so people who know me aren't really surprised by the ridiculous amounts of time and money I put into things.

Just this morning a older buy from work were talkkmg about last night. I said you watch the superbowl ? He said yea until the 4th and went to bed. I said why? He said you do what you do I do what I do! Conversation continued told him how I set up my fish tank (75g) and then showed him a picture if them set up (3 of them) he said why so many? I said you do what you do I do what I do!

most people who keep fish really aren't that into it though, i don't feel upset that they assume i just have a goldfish in a jar or a little 10 gallon tank or something

People don't talk to me much about my fish. Although they do know that I am the guy with a ginormous tank and that I take off days from work to stay home and wait for fish to be shipped in. If they do ask, it is generally about shipping. "You can ship fish?..... wow!"

Who cares what they think?

I have a tank at work, a small 10 gallon riparium style, so its a good conversation starter and I was actually surprised how many people had fishkeeping experience in the past. For some reason mostly "large Pleco" stories. I would also feel a bit insulted if people asked me if I keep goldfish(even if I do keep one). Im pretty enthusiastic about my fish in general chat anyways so most people are aware of my tanks and fish.

:headbang2
So am I the only one that feels odd when people ask if you have pets and I say yes fish. They give me weird looks. Then they say oh a goldfish then I am insulted. Also when I get a bonus at work ppl are like what you going to spend it on. And I blurt out a new filter, fish, pump ect. And I get a look like I am a lepper? Any one else have this? Or when you go to the pet store and you correct the "fish guy"?
its only so when you are dealing at the bottom level wich most fiskeepers are ,say for instance you had the funds to erect a 3000 to 4000g tank inside your living area ,they will be calling you all types of super heroes ,artist, so forth and so on ,people still remember the gold fish in the jar syndrome ,do not blame the hobby it can be an art form if you can afford it ,after all it does look kinna silly for a grown man caring for a 29 gallons just sayin :headbang.

I agree its hard to explain to people about the hobby. I had to talk to my friend abut notbuying me fish for my 20g because it will overstock plus it was gonna be 10 goldfish. So i guess i do feel odd about fish
