Ever Have this happen?

Lived in a neighborhood like that when I was a kid back in the 60s.So many breakins the dads formed a vigilante commitee and prowled the streets at night.Busted up any tresspassers, and dumped them on the railroad tracks.I hear you about protecting your kids, there was a huge fight with intruders in my house and we moved to the burbs soon after.
Sucks that people still have to live like that.
Stay safe.

get your gun permit.

then a pistol and/or shotgun.

lock them

dont lets kid answer door.

post a sign on your door saying "a gun lives here"

that's really scary! you must be worried in case he comes back again...i never open the door if anyone knocks at night...too scary...!!

yeah i agree with the above, put a sign up saying you have a gun - one of those window sticker thingies and also a beware of the dog one too. that should deter anyone trying anything weird.

get a dog. there the best first line of defense for protecting your home. they can hear and smell danger long before a human can.

Bully breeds (pitbulls, american bulldogs, dogo argentino) are the best breeds for not only protection, but as a companion. with proper training, their going to be your best friend for life, always ready and willing to play or just watch tv, yet will never, ever back down if the time should ever come to protect its family.

2 large wel trained dogs, and i beg anyone to break in. they wont make it much passed the door.

i did see a nice sign while delivering leaflets once. it said "this home protected by Smith and Wesson"

Wow that sucks bad. I would be worried about them coming back again. A gun is not a bad idea however I personally would not want to announce it. If the intruder knows you have a gun... and they do decide to break in... well you always run the chance of that gun turning on you if you dont know that the intruder is there and they some how manage to get it, or them getting to you before you can get to the gun. I would rather them not know I had a gun. I would put up the sign for home security and a dog. I also agree with talking to neghibors, its always good to have another look out and also let others know so they are aware.

I know I lived in a ghetto area of Tampa and some guy got pistol whipped and his car/wallet stolen. We finally moved (more or less b/c of rommies) and found an apartment in a more decent area, which still doesnt mean squat. We had a bunch of break in's in our complex not to long ago, they cut out the screens on the first floor apartments and took everything they could get from the apartments they got into. One of the people across from our complex got robbed. I am glad I have a dog who has a loud and mean bark.

On another note if you have it where the intrudter could easily break in through a window you should look into getting that window cover (looks like tint or something) so that if someone shatters the glass the tint looking stuff holds it in place so if someone broke the window they would cut themselves up horribly bad trying to get through it.

Its really sad that people have to steal from other people who are honest and work hard for what they have (I know I had something I worked hard for stolen from me and it sucks). It sucks more that you also have to worry about your own saftey as well as your familys saftey, weather that family is your dog or wife and childern. Unfortunetly I see crime will only get worse b/c of the rough times we are in so that is what people resort to. I would lock up anything extremely important and hide it really well. Also make sure you have inventory of what you own.

1) Get an alarm system. It doesn't have to be a high end alarm system, possibly just a motion sensor by a door with a loud alarm. If a screamer goes off, most intruders will leave. If you can't do this, then at least go get a security system sign (you've seen the APX, brinks, etc signs everywhere). you'd be surprised what a sign and some stickers can do. MOST thieves want and easy pay day, so they will look for greener pastures.

2) What state do you live in? This will determine what attitude your state law enforcement will have in regards to gun control. If you don't plan on carrying, you can skip the permit. You have no need to conceal or carry your weapon, just leave it in your home. I would skip the idea of a pistol (the only real need for a CCL) in favor of a pump shotgun. Easy to load, easy to aim, doesn't go through walls the same as pistols/rifles, and the sound of a shell getting rammed home would be terrifying for an intruder in a dark house, I would imagine.

If someone broke into your home and you shot and killed them in self defense, can you go to jail?

varies from state to state

In ma if the state can prove you had an option and killed him/her anyway yes. This will very much be up to the DA.

If you want fire arms for home defense first get all the permits you can. Some states require them for long guns (rifles and shot gun) some only pistols. Then get a pump action shot gun, as the noise of cocking it will dissuade all but the most persistent and homicidal thief.

Ozz, There are some strange people around these days. Protect yourself.

If something gives you a weird feeling trust your gut instinct. Call the cops and have a plan for home invasion ready. It does happen, and most people are never prepared, sadly..
