i don't think it will make it but you never know

it moves around when bits of blood worm are near

i have been trying to work out when the female got preg

i think the pups are about 1 month premature

OK, but what is yours, so that we are all on the same page with standard terms.
Mine is the one recognized by biologists
:)
( here;'s the simple explanation :) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071104181904AAeaI16 )

I hope they make it
:)

i cant be asked going over the same old debate with you again

i was told my last batch of pups were F2 as they were bred from F1 captive bred mean these come from my F2 rays making this pup F3
but you already know my opinions

if you have a problem with my naming take it up with frank and Nico

Hi Richard,

I think that there is no need to offer food until the yolk sack is exhausted, this would only influence the water quality negative and the pups will need good water conditions now. Turning out the light is for sure also a good idea!
But what I think is the most imporant: Remove the sand immediatly!!!
The sand will damage the yolk sack, which will cause an infection and a quick death! I recognized this issue with premature born Scobina pups.

How big are those pups and how big is the yolk sack? Do you maybe have a foto of the already died pups underside?

Regards
Stefan

sad to hear one had passed mate.

an understanding as to why they were premature in the first place would be a good idea for next time. wether it be stress from the other female pushing her around or what ever.

stefanW,
there on very small very round pea gravel so hopefully it wont damage its very fragile underside.

DavidW,
why?

i talked to Nico on the phone today and he said the same as you

when the yolk sack is inside the female it is protected from infection once a pup is born with a yolk sack the tank water will infect the yolk sack so it must be protected at all costs

the substrate has been removed from the puppy pen the picture was only taken 1 hour after finding them

the pup is still in the main tank so water conditions should be good and i just changed my polyfilter which will remove any heavy organics or other stuff

the pup is about 5cm and the yolk sack about 1.5cm

I am glad that you are believing my words and nico told you the same!

Then there is even a small chance, that the pup will make it.....but I am sorry, I really only see a SMALL chance! If possible, you should also stopp feeding the bigger rays, when they are swimming in the same water. I would also use UV now.

If sand is removed, that increases stress to the pup! So turn out the light and propably additionally offer a shelter for the pup. I am using shelters made of PVC Plates in that cases or slate (a flat stone, you know?)

In my opinion, the reason for a premature birth is almost every time stress and most time caused by a horny male.....

Stefan
