face biting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No eay this is predation the energy the moke would have use to take down a poly the same size wouldnt make sense.

Does the moke eat tilapia ?
Regardless of which reason makes sense the out come is the same. Get the moke out of there. Take away it's territory or its what ever you want to call it long term. And I totally agree you may never be able to put it back in. Just depends on the moke. Sorry Chelsea.

I miss typed my post it should have read "no way this is predation" i think it kind of does make a difference only in terms of learning or discussing their behaviors. Especially if it is eating already i dont see many fish wasting the energy on making a meal out of a fish that large.

Either way it does suck

I am confident getting more polys will assist immensely. Poly count 2 & 3 sometimes will create aggression, there will be 1 meanie. Magic poly number seems to be 4 to 5+. My suggestion is to get 2 more 6" Senegal. Perhaps an Albino and regular. No need for a spendy specie. It's probably a 25-$30 remedy. Good luck!

It's so strange. My moke is gentle and kind of shy. But yet when confronted by another poly it doesn't turn away, it faces it head on and spikes up but doesnt or hasn't fought. Albino is apparently a scraper but doesn't start stuff. Dels are both curious and bold yet are spooked by stuff outside the tank sometimes. Sen is curious but flighty and timid. I guess what I'm getting at without going in to every fish I've owned is with certain fish you can pretty much guess it's personality by what kind of fish it is. Like I say oscar.... image happy to see you or really anyone up front at the glass and more then happy to eat it if it fits in its mouth. Does the describe all Oscars? no but most. I guess some read the book and others dont.

The moke is stalking the del cause on the blood smell from its tail, i would remove the moke or put a divider, then i would add maybe 2 more sen like what the others are suggesting.

If that was me i would take out the decors or rearranged them, then isolate the moke and let the del and the new sen claime most of the tank as territory then introduce the moke after a month or so.

What are the size difference anyway?
How often you feed?

I dont see the moke can eat the del but worst case senerio is when the moke grab holds of the del and do a deathroll.

This is also what I would do. Definitely worth trying. I also believe adding a few more poly's could help too. As mentioned having two or tree fish in a tank is usually a bad number with fish in general unless its a breeding pair and sometimes even then

Hey gang. Just got a beautiful 6inch WC delhezi from WS two days ago. She is in with a 8-9 inch moke. Originally I thought they were BFF because of all the piling and swimming that was going on. However, after 24 hours of being in the new tank, the Moke has bitten the del on the face(under her jaw) and shredded her tail. Day two, the moke is biting the del on the face and shaking her....and biting her pec fins and shaking her. She has been doing this multiple times.

I'm not really sure what to do? should I rehome one of them? Put up a divider? Put the del in quarentine? Will this behavior stop? Worried the moke is going to eat/kill the del. Is this just the dominance behavior they display when a new poly enters the territory( changing of social hierarchy) or is this possible a life or death scenario?

Moke is being super aggressive. I thought all of them were supposed to get along. Pinky the albino is also up at the top a lot. Moke ate the 2 inch delhezi I had in there. 3 glo-danios and now one of the green tiger barbs is all ready gone.Any help would be appreciated.

My sens had (some) aggression towards the new one, COMPLETELY rescaped and replanted and stuff died down

Sorry to hear about this :(

Good news is I got a divider. My dad found some egg crate in someone's yard lol.
Though moke is still in the QT 10 gal. Debating between divider or maybe putting the moke in the 10, 20 long, or Walmart tub for a while. Not my first choice obviously. Although good news is del is healing up and happy(when the moke isn't in there). Although she and the moke still won't touch the pellets. Both of them have been eating the green tiger barbs. Originally thought it was just the moke. However last night there were 3....now there are only two. The moke wasn't in there...and I KNOW they couldn't fit in the albinos mouth hehe. Both of them really like the fish I guess.

Moke's new name is Nagini. After Voldermort's snake in Harry Potter. You know the snake that ate a few people. Or she could be the basilisk(monster snake). This seems fitting.Cause she's a natural predator, snake like, and always looking for snacks lol. Maybe that's why she was getting mad at the del. del was eating her snacks. Who knew a moke could be aggressive hahahah.

As far as adding a new poly. My LFS could order me a 6inch retropinnis. Those are the only upper jaws(other than big 3) they have at that size I guess. By they I mean Segrest. Sens would be 2.5/ e inch. Thoughts on retro? I think they said it would be 57.
