Fahaka Puffer, what should I know?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ghost shrimp imo are fine for feeding puffers...

As for that lip, seems like a good chunk was taken out... Does it look like an open wound in person? Or does it look like its healed like that?

Looks like it is healing like this. The only thing near an open wound is at the "peak" of the injury above the teeth.

Melafix and very high water quality are the two best things you can do for your puffer right now. Another thing I suggest is to start treating for ip, the stomach seemed to be en caved slightly and it's easier to nib it in the butt while it's in the early stages and the puffer's immune system is still holding it off.

Definitely agree with keeping the water quality up... As for the lip, really not sure what to say... I mean it might heal completely with age, but at the same time look like a pretty big chunk taken out...

Either way good luck, and keep us posted...

get him eating frozen shrimp. that little guy needs to eat which will promote healing/growth on his lip. make sure the shells are off until he gets used to the food

Menu now includes deshelled snails, frozen market shrimp, freeze dried krill. Also will take pellets but just breaks them up and spits them out. Does anyone's fahaka eat pellets?

Mine eats pellets... It eats anything except tank mate *knock on wood*, trick is to train them young so they get used to it...

Decided this is just not the fish for me here in the immediate future. Maybe latter on down the road. Fahaka is for sale.

Shame to hear... If you dont mind me asking, what put you off?

I don't have a tank that I want to dedicate solely to this fish.
