Fastest Breeding / Feeder fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a breeding pair of convicts will kill anything else that goes in the tank with them, even many much larger fish. They don't have to be a breeding pair to wipe out your standard livebearer population (this is from experience!)

If you are going with guppies you should have at least 6 females to 1 male, because the limiting factor is not the males.

Tilapia are illegal in California, though that probably wont stop anybody. Though I think it is stupid because once you get out of southern california they can't survive in the wild.

convicts. they'll multiply in no time.

im sure many fish that your monster eats in its natrural habitat have a piny dorsal fin, most cichlids and sunfish do . . . i think thats why fish naturally try to eat their fish head first? thought they sometimes dont
eat head first b/c if tail goes in first, feeder's gill will clip predator's gill, and cause unable to swallow.

Hey Kit, is right if you get a convict pair they will beat up/kill anything else in the tank. You will have your guppys up in the top corner far away and anytime they get close BAM! Second Convict fry will not be ready in a month unless your monsters you are feeding are mollys. I dont know what he was saying. I am trying the same thing and mine are about a month into it and the fry are almost the size of nerds.

In no way am I trying to stop you from breeding but maybe put up a divider in the tank and try both, or 2 breeding pair of convicts as they do breed like crazy. I am about to get a 30 long tank and put 3 dividers and try 2 breeding pair convicts and guppys and the like because I havnt tried them yet.

And to get a pair of convicts get about 3 femals(red on the side) and a few males and they will pair off, get rid of the left outs.

A pic of my 20 day old fry!

Convicts all the way. Short of bleaching the tank, you can't stop these suckers from breeding.

convicts! mine have spawned 3 times.. but i just let them go and get eaten, lol.. i should save them!

i wanna try guppies for mine..
but i don't have monsters.. YET!

oh, and i also have 2 marble crays.. both pushing 3 inches.. so hopefully soon i'll be getting some babies!
oh, and both, ghost and red cherry shrimp... since my biggest fish is my 8 inch jd..

I currently have 2 small giant snakeheads that will be eating the feeder fish

also here in the UK
you can not buy FEEDER fish as its illigal to feed a live fish to another one (so my LFS tells me when i asked)

its illegal to sell an animal for the purpose of feeding another- you cant even buy live mice to feed a snake, technically you shouldn't be allowed to by crickets to be fed live either.

I got 2 male and 6 female guppies about a week ago, 2 male and 4 female platys a week before that, i'll keep you posted on how fast/how many fry are produced.

ummm am i the only one who noticed that this is from 2008? I'm pretty sure the op figured it out by now.
