Not an LFS story, but here's a snippet from an ad I just read on Craigslist that made me laugh:

"Aquarium/fish tank 12 1/2 deep x 30" wide x 19 ' tall. great shape. I believe it holds 75 gallons."

75 gallons, huh? Bahahahaha!

Let's not get this thread closed, ladies and gentlemen ;)

amen

So I feel like the worst person in the world.....

Lady comes in and is looking at the tropical fish (cool), I walk up to her and ask her if she needs help. She says she wants to get a fish, so I ask her tank size 1gal. So I start to say only fish that'd fit in a 1gal is a betta (I know Bettas can't really live in a gallon but it's all we've got:()....She says oh we had bettas but the frogs ate them....Dwarf Frogs eating Bettas?!?!:screwy: I tell her that dwarf frogs are pretty blind, but she insisted that they infact ate the bettas. She now says that she'd continue to look around. After I help another customer I come back to her and she points out the Tiger Barbs I tell her the whole speal of cant fit in that "tank" etc...She insists and to my dismay she still wanted the fish, then she says she wants a Ghost Catfish  Same size but different tank.

Some people have no respect for fish and some don't consider them animals:(

After the movie finding nemo came out it only took about a month for me to have to quit. I swore that I would teach all my kids scientific names from day one, and I still think I may make good on that promise.

My favorite customer was one that (after the movie finding nemo) came through the checkout at the LFS with a bowl, colored gravel, fake plant, and a clownfish. Even before ringing up her total I saw what was missing and I said, glumly, "Your going to want some salt." Her reply: "What for?"

It was the straw that broke the camels back. I just had to walk away.

everytime ive posted on this thread, ive knocked chain stores, but this time its a story in their favor. or atleast in the favor of one guy. there was a family buying fish for a 5 gallon hex. they insisted they did not want the smaller ones at first and kept pointing toward the fish that can never be kept in a 5 gallon hex. the guy stood his ground though and made sure they wouldnt buy something they couldnt handle. eventually they gave up and didnt buy anything. i guess its a loss of sales but props to that guy for doin the right thing

not much of a story, but i was talking to a friend from school on facebook who works at a lfs and he said the other day some guy brought in a few hundred dollars worth of corals and other saltwater fish trying to sell it all cause he was dropping the hobby. since they only take donations the guy decided just to leave it anyways to be rid of it.

i hear that happens alot, he said that wasnt the first time something like that had happened, but its usually just cheap plants and fish that get too big.

ya i think it definately happens. if for some reason u gotta move whether it be business, family, or whatever, and u dont have a buyer lined up, it sucks but u gotta just get rid of your stuff by the day u gotta leave

ill see what i can do about getting some of that stuff sold through here. he said last time someone brought in some fish and a a 6 footer "short'n wide" as he calls it, and one of the workers got it dirt cheap.

otherwise, i doubt the store had room for it all :nilly:

Here's one:
Was at WalMart the other day with my daughter, looking at the fish. It was "new shipment day" and the guy had just dumped about five juvenile red blood parrots into a tank barren of anything but gravel. All of them were trying to hide under the little rectagular filter cover -- or whatever it is -- on the back of the tank before they started nipping at each other.
One in particular was already taking the brunt of the aggression from the other four. My daughter (7) said maybe they're playing. I quietly explained to her they weren't playing, they were in fact fighting.
I told the guy "Those parrots are going to destroy each other."
His response: "I know." then goes about his business.
I then say: "Maybe you can put some decorations in there, just to give them a chance to get away from each other."
No response.
I then suggested he put them in the tank with with two beat to sh*****t juvvie oscars. Damn, man! Do something! Anything!
The guy then mumbles something about them killing each other.
I'm no expert when it comes to CAs and SAs, but I do know enough that there would only be one parrot left in that tiny tank sooner rather than later.

lol the worse time was when i dropped by my lfs and saw many many oscars and many many dwarf gourami in a tank less than 1'x1'x1' !!! and the water was so cloudy!! one week later... yup you guessed it, all the gouramis died and their bodies are still in there!!! oscars too some of them became stiff
