Haha I love it when people have never seen HUGE tanks lol... They go like my tank is huuuge... its 30 gallons :screwy: Then when you say you have a 300 gallon grow out or temp tank they go like "is that even possible/legal?"

when i told people who know very little about fish tanks i have a 900gallon fish tank they seriously say stuff like "your foundation with break!" i get sick of people who dont know tell me what my fish tanks about. but to alot of people a 55 is huge.

holy cripes! where is this store? sounds like you're in the worst part of the state

it's not Worcester, is it? :D

Umm, about a half hour from Worcester..somewhat rural area. :) There's not much around for fish stores..we get them all.

This kid, him and his mom come in, and his mom just turns him lose in the toy and pet area to keep him occupied while she shops. I've heard he has grabbed fish out of tanks and ran around the store with them. I talked to the managers after this happened today...we're going to put signs like "Do not open tanks" and please keep children supervised, so we can actually enforce them and ask them to leave. It's touchy because of the handicapped thing...but the mother does not care what the kid does. After I put the eel back, he started pounding with his fists on the tank..he's going to get hurt if she dosen't keep him supervised. A few weeks back, the eel jumped out, my coworker got bit putting it back in-he should have gone for stitches, it was a bad bite. If the kid had gotten bit, no doubt they would sue us?

^ Always sucks then your hands are some what tied and can't do too much about it... hopefully once you guys get the signs up you'll be able to avoid any problems and possible lawsuits???

Maybe you should tell you manager to put up signs on the eel tanks stating "vicious fish, may cause serious damage if tampered with" or something similar which should definitely help avoid any possible lawsuits????

Yeah for example my dad... Was planning to get a 4 footer maybe a 120gal and showed it to my dad he goes wow thats huge... Then when he wanted to use the coffee table as the stand we measured it for 3 feet long... went to the LFS and asked me if i wanted a 2footer instead! LOL i denied denied in the end i got a 3x1.5x1.6.. Dunno how on earth am I gonna convince him to buy me a 5 foot fiberglass tank

^Buy your own tank^
I had a guy with a Black Belt, Salvinii, and an Oscar in a 55gal. When I told him he was overstocked he replied "with only three fish?!!?" I told him three fish that get very big and have a high bioload.(Don't think he believed me)

maybe talk to the kids mom and tell her as politely as possible to keep an eye on her son, tell her that you are concerned for the child's safety. if that doesn't work would it be at all possible to move the eel to a tank out of the kids reach?

I'd probably be fairly direct with her about it. Control the child or please leave. The lost revenue from the few things she buys if she never comes back is nothing compared to a potential lawsuit.

Person reading over shoulder says to get a Volitan and let him try with it. Kind of cruel but at the same time, I wonder if that would teach him.

Good idea about the signs though. That way, you can ask them to leave if something were to happen and, if he were to kill one of the fish, I believe she would have to pay for it but the animal would still lose its life. :(
