last week I was at a big-box aquarium superstore, and they have a lot of great tanks ... but this one big tank had several Texas cichlids that were infested with ich, looked really bad ...

and swimming in there with them was a just perfect GT (!) ... no ich, great shape, great color, swimming normally, even taking a healthy poo, nothing white or stringy ...

I don't have room for a GT right now, but if I did, I would have bought that fish on the spot, just to get him out of there ...

later, we noticed that in their big display tank -- thousands of gallons, dozens of fish -- there were several fish with fin rot and what looked like body fungus ... overall, it was an unpleasant visit ...

I've been working at a local shop for a month and a half now, and I have a few decent stories, but this one is the best: This lady comes in today to get a feeder mouse. (We do more than fish.) Anyway, she has this Petco box she wants us to put it in. My coworker, who was helping her, HATES Petco, so he takes her box out in the parking lot and sets it on fire, then puts her mouse in a different box and goes inside and gives it to her, intending to go back out and put out the fire while she got rang up. She paid in advance and was leaving just as he walked back in with the mouse, so she had to walk right past her flaming Petco box to get to her car. I wish I could have seen her face!

Argh..a small pet store opened up by my house. They are OK, they keep some fish but nothing really out of the ordinary (except for a lungfish that they've had since they opened). I was in there the other day and most of their fish had something bacterial going on...they had a tank full of 3" bristlenose plecos, two were almost dead and the rest were in bad shape. They also keep discus for some reason, but they put like gouramis and severums in the tank with them...they were all dark and not looking so good :(.

^^^ LOL!!!!

Here's a good one:

Last week I walk into a pet store, they have a big 450 gal display tank, with a bunch of Oscars, that clearly have Ick, I told the guy: "hey I think you have ick problems, all your fish have white spots".

He's reply: "thats ok, they got used to it by now, and they're inmune."

Obviously im never buying any fish from that place

Where to even begin.. This week has been a doozy

1) Lady came in to get her water tested, 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate, her tank was up for 1 day, i told her it wasn't cycled and explained what she needed to do - and my co-worker butted in and goes 'oh, my tank has all those ratings too, you're fine' - the lady looked at me like i was stupid and left

2) I asked my manager whether she had continued to treat for ick on the 2 days i worked, to which she replied 'oh we can't treat for it 2 days in a row'

3) My personal favorite, my manager had put the bags of new fish in each of the tank, slight mistake, she put the bag of albino oscars in with the glofish...

Oh, ebonics also killed a fish this week. I couldn't convince a black kid that it wasn't a 'baller' shark, and that it was a 'bala' shark. He wouldn't take no for an answer and his mom got pissed at me, so a 3" bala was doomed to live in a fishbowl. Nothing I could do :\
