The worst part about working at a big-box store is the customers tend to believe the printed tags more than you.

That printed tag has never taken care of a fish. @#$%.

On occasion yes, but a lot don't seem to listen to that either. I've heard everything from it will only grow to the size of its tank to I've had them befor and you're wrong to they don't have to get that big.

In such situations I've often been able to grab my floor manager (in independent pet stores/fish shops), explain the situation to them, and obtain permission to refuse to sell a fish to a particular individual.

Now that I work for an Ichthyological illiterate, I miss that job terribly.

Awhile ago I wanted to start feeding my fish live foods aka blood worms, daphne, brine shrimp, I went to the large petshop in out area. Got there and asked them if they sell live fish food, the guy about my age looked at me if was :screwy: so I asked him if they had any live daphne or blood worms or so ...
He told me he'll need to get the manager on that. So out comes the manager and I ask him, he says sorry lady selling those will be bad for business, but I can get you some feeder fish, I tell him that is not gonna quite work since the fish I want to feed are Kribs and not the bigger fish that usually eat the feeders. He goes ahead and tells me he can give me the smallest feeders they have and that the Kribs may eat those.:duh: So I told him to just leave it cause I'll find another shop that will be able to help me and I did.

My manager yesterday:

"Long Testicle Anemone"

With a straight face.

Lmao.

I had a woman call the shop today and ask me if I thought it would be okay if she drank her water conditioner. She stated that since it was safe to put in the water of delicate fish, humans should be able to drink it.

i had a guy in yesterday buying some aquarium salt, a heater, and a couple other things. as he was asking which heater he should get, i asked him the size of the tank. he told me " its a pretty big tank, i think its a 20 high." so i had to ask what he had in there, he told me he had 9 fish in there, so i thought it might not be THAT bad, so when i asked him what he had in it, he went over pointed to the blood parrots, saying he had 7 of them, and then pointed to the albino oscars, saying he had 2 of them. i told him that the tank was WAY too small for them, and he said no, they are fine in there. instead of starting an argument and risking slapping the guy across the back of the head to knock some sense into him, i had to walk away.
