Favorite LFS "CUSTOMER" STORIES ...

Not much of a story, but I've got one:

A privately owned lfs near me finally got some gold severums in for me. The owner is typically very knowledgeable about fish, especially salt water. When I came in to pick up the sevs, he started to explain to me that their coloration is the product of hybridization with another cichlid species. Even when I tried to tell him that they're a just a color variation, he continued to insist that they were a hybrid and that the golden coloration is couldn't be possible for a true severum.

Like I said, not much of a story, but please keep the stories coming! It seems being moved to the lounge killed this thread :(

Yeah this should really go back to the general aquatic section

New here but I come with a story.

Tonight I went to Wal*mart to see if they had anything I could give my betta to treat him for velvet and while there had a look at the fish. In one of the tanks there were some cute mollies swimming around with a few plecos. Well one of the mollies had died and a pleco was sucking on it. I politely flagged down a worker and let him know there was a dead fish, he looked at the tank a bit with a blank look on his face before spotting the fish and proceeded to lift the hood. Like any normal person I thought he was going to grab a net or something and fish it out but nope he looked at it again before turning to me and saying "Yep, that's dead" and walking away. I continued my shopping and returned again ten minutes later and the poor thing was still there, needless to say I am appalled.

When I worked at a chain petstore there was the dude who insisted I get the only wingless crickets out for his African butterflies as the ones with wings "kept him up at night". O_o

Another time a customer came in asked me if I could get his anacharis from the colder tank.

One regular guy came in for his feeders and was explaining how he had a 6 foot long tank on his boat w/ an arowana in it. He didn't speak very much english so unfortunately I never really figured out how he fenangled that with the constant rocking issue.

While doing water changes on my own tanks today i was thinking of when i used to work at a chain store. Particularly when people wouldn't know if their tank was fresh or saltwater when asking about salt fish. Its one of those things where i wish i could have said "since you asked i'm sure you don't"

Going along with that...when customers would try to get a refund for a dead salt fish. I would say we didn't guarantee them, and they had no idea it was a saltwater fish. So some of my coworkers would be just as guilty of being stupid and not asking simple questions.

p.s. can this be moved back to general aquaria? Its going to dissapear being in the lounge.

Bump. Any chance a mod could move this back to the general aquaria section? I would really appreciate it. :D

yeah, more people replied to this in the general aquaria section. and it is fish related after all...
