This is a good one, I have told it to all our other employees and they laughed their @$$es off.

So this guy comes in, and he's a decent guy, done freshwater for years, knows his stuff. He has a 70ish gallon tank, regular T8 light and a fluval 405 filter, and it's empty now. He wants to convert it to saltwater but doesn't know the first thing about it and needs me to explain it to him. Great, that's fine, I set people up with saltwater all day, easy. What he said next was hillarious though. He said he went to Petland and asked them but they just confused the heck out of him. This young girl tells him his fluval filter is useless for saltwater (meanwhile I have the same one on my 55 reef), then they proceed to tell him that in order to use it, he will have to install a light INSIDE his filter and grow CORALS in it:ROFL:
In a fluval 405!

She must have been thinking of a refugium...

So I explained saltwater to him, sold him some live sand, live rock, and some salt, and he was happy he didn't need to light his canister filter. So I say thanks to Petland for that sale and our new happy saltwater customer who will continue to shop at our store and avoid Petland!

:ROFL::ROFL:
I know nothing about saltwater... representin' fresh:headbang2:ROFL:... but that story had me rolling...

As for the Nemos... good gosh, if I hear one more person in the aquarium room at the Staten Island Zoo say OMG look it's Nemo/Dory/etc, I'm gonna have to pick them up and take a short walk over to see my good pal the Chinese Alligator :grinyes:

I'm tired of people calling blue damselfish "dories". ("Dories" are blue hippo/regal tangs)

Just because it is blue, it does not mean its name is Dory!

Yep.. and damselfish don't usually get along very well with "Nemo".

So I had one of the most heart wrenching experiences in my LFS the other day. I walked in like usual, said hey to all the employees and grabbed some massivore like I usually do. I start walking around to check out all the fish and the gf and I notice one of those emptied headed blond bimbo types (not stereotyping, that's just the only way she could truly be defined) there with her boyfriend. They're picking out fish for their first aquarium and all that jazz. As I'm looking at a real beat up Jar I hear them telling the owner what size tank and all that stuff that the fish were going into. She was putting all of them into a 3 gallon. I stopped for a second and though well...maybe shes only getting some guppies. I walked over to wear all her fish were bagged as they were finishing picking out more and in the bags she had 5 balloon mollies and a black ghost knife. I stopped and felt my heart break. My first instinct was to go over to her and tell her she was making a big mistake, but then reality set in as I realized its getting harder and harder to make sales and the store needs money :/ felt so bad on the drive home....

i was at LFS store the other day and and there was a middle aged couple walking round all of the tanks and the bloke was saying "i've kept those" to just about every fish he passed. i giggled to myself.

anyway, the woman walked up to the counter and said "i've got a 3 gallon tank and my fish has grown as big as he will in my aquarium, i wanna add a fish to it" to which the guy at the counter smerked at me and said to the woman "thats not true, fish can outgrow aquariums" to which she replies "i beg your pardon, they are my fish!, i bought them and i want them to stay that size!" i couldnt keep the laughter in anymore so i crept off to the reptile section lol.

That's the sad thing about fish - they don't get any respect. If these people treated a dog or cat how they treat their fish, (cramming them in tiny containers and killing them with alarming frequency), they'd be in jail.

We have a lady at work that we refer to as cichlid lady because she tries to act like she knows her cichlids but really doesn't. Anyways besides that she had called one morning and talked to one of my coworkers saying she had ammonia in her TAP water. lol. We told her that's not really something she should be telling us but that she should be getting her city to test her water to be sure because she'd have bigger issues than if her fish are going to die or not.
