Every time I go into Petco to buy my 2 German Shep's dog food, I always go to the fish section. I wouldn't ever buy from there, but the one near my house has a nice collection. I just sometimes look at the fish that I can't commit to keeping and watch for a bit.

During my last visit, directly next to me was this girl roughly my age (mid 20's) and the Petco employee. He was collecting up 10 "Small" Tiger Oscars for them. I got curious and asked if she enjoyed keeping Oscar's. She responds by saying "Well I have never had them before. My Goldfish all died off recently and I really like the look of these guys better." Well...when she said "Goldfish", a red light went off in my head. lol. I then asked them how big her tank was and she said 20 gallon. With a very serious look of concern, I told her that you can't keep even 1 Oscar in a 20 gallon, let alone 10, they get really big. This is where it gets good... She responds by saying... "Well the tag here says 'Small' Oscar, so I should be ok. See *points to the tanks with the 'Medium' and 'Large' Oscars* they won't get big like those. HAHAHA

Well me being the huge smartass that I am just burst into laughter. (btw, the petco employee is silent and still collecting the "small" Oscars). I said "WOW...some people. Look...they are labeled 'Small' because they are just very young. They will grow."

They looked at me like I was nuts. And yes...there was a estimated full length posted on the label. I had to walk away before I smacked the crap out of her.

I have one Oscar story that's out of this world:
I was cleaning the goldfish tanks the other day at work. The feeder goldfish tank is in the same section as the fancy goldfish. The middle aged man walked up to the feeder tank. He was looking at them for awile. I said did you need help with anything? He said, pointing at the tank nfull of feeder goldfish, "I'd like one of those oscars". I thought I mis heard him and I replied with you want a feeder for you oscar? He told me are these not oscar cichlids? He even had the cichlid word in there. I pointed to the giant sign that stated: FEEDER GOLDFISH. He told me he thought these were oscars. I told him no, I pointed him to the one oscar we had left. And you know what he said? That thing is so UGLY! Anyways long story short I sent him on his way.

You should have said:

"Sorry, you're correct sir, these gold...fish are oscars. Special orange oscars. They'll grow fairly big, so I'd only get one. You'll want to put your gold....I mean special orange oscar in at least a 75g so he has lots of room to spread out."

Not really customer related, but I didnt want to start a whole new thread for this...

Don't you hate it when people look at your tanks and ask "How do they taste" or some other idiotic question about eating the fish? What do they expect me to do, pull one out of the tank and take a bite? Thats like if I came up to you and asked, "Hey, how does your dog taste" or "Hmm, nice looking baby, a little too small to eat just yet"

:nilly:

everytime me and my fiance go to the pet store and i look at fish (shes not rly into the whole fish thing) she ALWAYS asks if we can eat them. she japanese btw.. so i know why she says it. i think she just does it now to annoy me

My story is about my uncle and when he was sold an Oscar years and years ago. They had guppies and other community fish. This Oscar was real small when they got it, well, it grew fast and before long his fish started "vanishing". One morning he come through and turned the light on and found out where his fish were going. This Oscar's belly. So instead of taking it back, what's he do? Throws it in the toilet and flushes it. When he told me that, I cringed to the point I looked like I was having a seizure.

I was in my local Petsmart yesterday overhearing the lady from the dog grooming section trying to tell the girl working in the fish department about fish. Sadly, she actually did know a little bit about what she was talking about. Just kinda funny that a dog groomer knows more about fish, than the person in the fish section.

Oh, the best one yet, was a customer in one of the LFS I frequent was trying to say his Dempsey would take a Buddi (I'm sure I butchered that). I know better, my BG male Dempsey is a real ass... but he wouldn't last 30 seconds against a Buddi.

:ROFL::ROFL: One of the best stories in the thread :ROFL::ROFL:

I honestly want to murder the carnival for giving away Goldfish as Prizes I've had over 6 people looking for "friends" or Bowls for their newly aquired goldfish and I've become tired from telling the 10gal per Goldfish, 10-20years, Ammonia Burn WC etc, etc, etc....Really people I'm glad at least two of these people have gotten it and are taking measures to provide for goldfish....Let me tell you when I say comets can get to a foot thats an understatement.....

Also love the THEY GET HOW BIG! When I told a couple of people that Tinfoils get to 12"+

my gosh i was at petco the other day and me and my friend were bored so he decided to "test" the fish guy

so he goes "Excuse me, how big do oscars get?"

the employee responds with "about this big" and makes a gesture with his hands showing about 5 inches

so i ask him "about four or five inches then huh? how fast do they grow"

"yeah they should grow around four inches or so in a year"

"...
how big of a tank do you reccomend"

"well, with or without fish?"

"*tries to hide laughter* without"

"weyull a tein gallon wuh be good, ya know deez fish needuh mingle, ya know, and ya know, if you put em in a big tank, deyll stay in da corner and cuhhz dey downt mingle, theyll get depression and die, ya know, fish get depression too ya know" he referred to this as like aqualovingnessmingling or something

i just laughed my ass off and walked away
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
