Ok, mine is more first hand. I have a friend who got a 75 gallon tank for her 1!!!! feeder goldfish! she wanted to make sure it was happy!

Turtles would probably be better off with fruits and veggies.

I'm not sure what turtles he had, but I have two red ear sliders in my pond. I've been feeding them fresh fruit and veggies for about a month now and they're growing like crazy. Super social too - come right up and beg for food. They get market shrimp and tilapia for treats.

res, especially males are primarily carnivorous i would start feeding primarily shrimp and tilapia in addition to the veggies

^^Agreed. But they aren't all carnivorous, or else they wouldn't take hooks baited with bread... and then have to get surgery to remove the friggin' things :irked:

Good to know! The RES were tossed in by the landscapers. I know nothing about turtles and the random website I found about them said to feed them fruits and veggies. They seem to be big fans of strawberries.

I'll start tossing in more fish.

I've added a flathead catfish to the mix as well, he's a big fan of the tilapia and shrimp as well.

I think anyone who has worked in a LFS has a million of these..

Anyways, a guy came in the other day, and bought some clown loaches.. (twice my age, already knows more about fish than me based on this)

Inquired about 'dwarf angelfish'.. I chuckled, said no.. "we must be all sold out".. he continued on, to educate my young self on the wonderful world of 'dwarf angelfish'.. apparently if you were born after 1980 you probably wouldn't know much about the dwarf angelfish, and so obviously you would want to hear all about them because your young, stupid, and work for a corporate pet store. ;)

I told him about our guarantee on the Clown Loaches, as they just came in a few days earlier, and I am a nice guy like that..

He told me he would 'climatize' them very well when he got them home.. I smirked, continued on with some good advice, made sure I threw the word 'acclimate' out there for him... he ensures me as he's leaving the department that he will 'emacitize' them for a long time.. :screwy:

Just so happens, I was the ole' back-up cashier to help him on his merry way.. We chatted a bit more, I asked him some silly questions just for S&Gs to see what kind of ridiculous retorts I would get. It was a fun time for all (mainly me, at his expensive).. but on the way out he told me again, and I quote "I will 'emancipate' them real well when I get 'em home!"...

So now our happy troop of clown loaches will live happily ever after with their dwarf angelfish, but only after adjusting to wheather changes, struggling with eating disorders, and becoming independant of their parent and/or guardian before the age of 18.

The End.

I literally got a nose bleed from laughing so hard.... thanks....

did he ever come back in?? first thing id ask him is how well the clown loaches exoskeletoned to his water??

Sadly my LFS just closed down last year. So 'm stuck with petsmart, their is actually one girl there that knows her stuff be she is rarely there when I am. Anyway I was browsing their live fish section on there site one day and saw they recently added Jaguars to their selection. I was pretty suprised since most non "fish people" dont know what they are and they have never had them before. After work I went right there, I asked the person in the fish department if they had any jaguar cichlids in. Her response, no, they are very rare and we only keep common fish. I was dissapointed but went to browse their stock and what do I stumble accross...Managuense Cichlids...hmm...I go up to him and say you know that you are carrying Jaguar cichlids now, he says no they are a different fish and are in fact much less aggressive than jaguar cichlids. I gave up, said ok I'll take a managu..blah.blahh cichild and left.

The award for worst LFS I have ever had the displeasure of being in is World of (puppy mill) Puppies, formerly World of Pets, also called World of Poop. All their tanks run on one central system, and they have had ich in their system for years becayuse when one tank gets it, they just treat the one tank, not the whole system. Their Herps are emaciated, their Herp water dishes are LITERALLY 50% substrate with water dripped over it, and it smells like butt. The saddest part is, they have very good stock. African Bagrid Catfish, Fredricki Cichlids, Dovii, all kinds of Dwarf Cichlids, different Pleco species, all kinds of crazy African Cichlids, Paddletail Newts, Skinks, different Snakes... all dommed to death by neglegence. My friend rescued a starving Paddletail Newt that was only being given pellets, which, of course, Paddletail Newts don't eat, and my friend got it eating frozen bloodworms in 2 days, in a 5g growout with cold water and an air pump, but it died on like the 3rd day. I hate that place :irked:

OMG I finally finished this thread! Took like 2 weeks! I hopefully will be working at my favorite LFS (Animal House in Corvallis, OR) soon, so I might have some stories to add. I once had two LFS employees argue with me that bichir was actually pronounced "bi-car". I had a good laugh about that one. On a separate occasion, an LFS owner tried to get me to buy an african lungfish that is at least three feet long for my 135 gallon tank.:screwy:
