In Pet Supermarket last night, I heard an employee talking to a couple and their 2 kids buying fish (2 Angelfish, 2 Mollys, a few tiger barbs, a Pleco, and some other stuff that I didn't see bagged before I got back there).
Employee: What size tank?
Customer: 20 gallons
Employee: How long as it been up?
Customer: A week
I'm thinking cool, this guy is gonna help them make informed decisions. Then the conversation goes downhill.
Employee: A week should be ok.
Customer: Can we put all of these in at the same time?
Employee: Yeah, they should be fine. Do you change water out?
Customer: Yeah. We have some goldfish in there now. If the water looks cloudy, we just take it all out and put new water in.
Employee: Just tap water?
Customer: Yeah. Is that bad?
Employee: No, tap water should be fine.
Customer's wife: Will those tiger fish eat the others? It says they can nip fins.
Employee: It sometimes happens, and they might chase the others around, but the fish will get used to each other and be fine.
Employee: Oh, do you have any food for the Pleco?
Customer: They don't eat fish food?
Employee: No, they eat algae. Since your tank has only been up for a week, you won't have any algae in there for him to eat. You have to feed him these algae disks.
Customer: 1 a day, or what?
Employee: No, I'd probably do 1 a week. They really don't need more than that. Just until you start getting some algae growing in the tank for him to eat.
At that point I couldn't take it anymore or I was gonna bust out laughing. Had to leave the store. I feel sorry for all those fish.
