@NC: IME keep your cool and follow Corporate Policies. You'll be able to suprise a few people since your an MFKer :D, I've had people go nuts when I've told them my biggest fish is ~18"

haha will do, at he moment my biggest fish is a 5-6" ABK and a pair of 4-5" sens though i did just pick upmy 75 today and am in the process of rearanging my room for it ;)

In Pet Supermarket last night, I heard an employee talking to a couple and their 2 kids buying fish (2 Angelfish, 2 Mollys, a few tiger barbs, a Pleco, and some other stuff that I didn't see bagged before I got back there).

Employee: What size tank?
Customer: 20 gallons
Employee: How long as it been up?
Customer: A week

I'm thinking cool, this guy is gonna help them make informed decisions. Then the conversation goes downhill.

Employee: A week should be ok.
Customer: Can we put all of these in at the same time?
Employee: Yeah, they should be fine. Do you change water out?
Customer: Yeah. We have some goldfish in there now. If the water looks cloudy, we just take it all out and put new water in.
Employee: Just tap water?
Customer: Yeah. Is that bad?
Employee: No, tap water should be fine.
Customer's wife: Will those tiger fish eat the others? It says they can nip fins.
Employee: It sometimes happens, and they might chase the others around, but the fish will get used to each other and be fine.
Employee: Oh, do you have any food for the Pleco?
Customer: They don't eat fish food?
Employee: No, they eat algae. Since your tank has only been up for a week, you won't have any algae in there for him to eat. You have to feed him these algae disks.
Customer: 1 a day, or what?
Employee: No, I'd probably do 1 a week. They really don't need more than that. Just until you start getting some algae growing in the tank for him to eat.

At that point I couldn't take it anymore or I was gonna bust out laughing. Had to leave the store. I feel sorry for all those fish.

When I go to Petsmart or Petco, any time I see anyone in any sections making an uninformed sale, I normally "loud talk" to my fiance.

"I hope he knows that those fish will kill eachother, and that pleco is going to outgrow his tank etc..."

I had one guy who literally had a bag of random cichlids- Labs, oscars, midas, jacks, and convicts- they were going in a 55. I stated that they would all outgrow his 55, but that might not matter because they would all kill eachother first... he handed the bag back to the employee and walked out.

bump - thread had fallen to 2nd page sorry

Was at the petsmart I work at but I wasn't working, and this girl came in and was asking what kind of fish she could put in a bowl, looking at oscars and other cichlids, the girl working was like no those guys need big tanks, and when the girl asked about bala sharks my co-worker was like 'well it says 40+ gallons but for 1 of them you'd probably only need a 10-20 gallon tank' - i was shocked... fortunately the girl didn't buy anything

Hope everything is OK bogwood!

I just read all 113 pages of this...it was great! I hope there are more stories to come.

I was in a local PetSmart recently. The employee knew me from all the frequent visits. A customer asked them a question about a Koi and the employee wasn't sure, so she asked me. I answered it for her and the customer asked me a few more questions. Then another customer asked a question. My 12 year old daughter heard a Mom and daughter talking about a fish and she jumped in with some advice. 20 minutes later, we had everyone's questions answered and people left happy with their fish!

lol, I would LOVE working at a place like that...but I am sure when it's day in and day out, things don't always go so smoothly.

Take care...

Wow, just noticed I was only about halfway through! I am sure my comment to bogwood makes absolutely no sense at this point ;)

Oh well, back to reading...

I heard this from one of my coworkers, there was one of the cashiers that answered the phone a while ago. She was in training so the manager was listening, a customer asked if we carried snakeheads. She replied with "No sir, we sell the whole snake..." The manager yelled, "HANG UP, JUST HANG UP NOW"
