The problem is that these are all raw numbers and you're not taking overall POPULATION into consideration. What works better is PER CAPITA (Murders per 1,000 people) figures.

I agree that was just more incomplete information, making something look as it is not. With out taking all factors into account a false view of reality is presented.

Here is murders per 1000 for top 62 countries http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita

Unless I missed it, went through the list 4 times, it seems odd that the country with the largest population is not even on the list. I wonder how many people own guns in China?

Sorry, posted the wrong table, which was for all murders.

Here is the correct table

Looking at Bderrick67's figures, you can see that the U.S.A. and South Africa are the 2 lone Advanced or "First World" nations in the top 10, while European Union nations are towards the lower end of the spectrum. Developing or "Third World" nations and former Eastern Block "Second World" nations are all over the board. Very interesting stats . . .

Heya,

I feel very comfortable with the fact that 99,9999% of the people here running arround with guns are cops ;)

But in USA guns are allowed and they are everywhere, so even if they make them illegal there would be too many arround...so I´d get me a gun there too :D

It also seems odd that you still fail to see the fact that firearms have NEVER been legal in China. You also fail to see that China's people are brainwashed by the government and not allowed to view ANY material that may disrupt the government (IE gun-related websites.) They can also not own toy guns or even look-a likes of real steel firearms.

WTF you find it odd? Has this info been presented to me somewhere and I missed it? If so please show me where I missed this info. I will proclaim that there is much in the world which I do not know, yet you find it odd:screwy:

BTW the remark was regarding an table that I had mistakenly posted. It has nothing to do with hand guns. Though still China with the largest world population is not within the top 62 countries for murder. Then again maybe it is just not being correctly reported.

How does the minimum wage and economic crisis REDUCE the (violent) crime rate?

Well, and increase in the minimum wage will help to reduce the amount of poverty in the country. The more money people have, the less they are likely to be to commit a crime.

I wasn't claiming an economic crisis would reduce the crime rate, it was a combined sentence stating that all those factors will have an influence, either positively or negatively, on the crime rate.

1) Death from a bullet in the head absolutely stops ALL criminal activity! :D

Hence why I said that the only answer for those criminals is CAPITAL punishment, i.e. the death sentence. Only I don't think they deserve to sit on death row for 20-30 years.

2) The "ends" do not justify the "means".

So you're saying that, if someone was going on a shooting rampage, killing innocent people left and right, then killing that person (the means) could not be justified by all the lives that you could have saved (the ends)?

1) Fully automatic weapons are already commonly available? Really? Where?

I'll bet you I could find an automatic weapon in less than an hour where I live. Legally or not.

If "everyone" was armed wouldn't "everyone" be on par with "everyone" else? Wouldn't the violent crime rate actually drop?

Not necessarily. It would probably increase initially, as those people who would LIKE to be able to commit crimes would now have the means to. But once most of them killed themselves off by getting shot trying to rob the gas station, then the crime rate would probably drop drastically. Especially once news spread of criminals everywhere being dropped left and right by armed citizens who happened to draw a gun and do what needed be done.
