Feeders

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do not but it would be great if I could. Maybe in the future, since now I don't have any room left to arrange a setup for that propouse.

I know about some guys who even breed their own mice and pinkies to feed their predatory pets.

Cheers.

If you're looking to grow you're own feeders for a P, try not to use goldfish. Not a healthy food for a P. The golds are missing certain strand in their growth make up (can't remember exactly which) that the P needs.

Most here, to my understanding, use Convicts as feeders. You can easily get them to breed and of course you get to choose what foods they eat. Making them a healthy live food.

Hope this helps!

I breed convicts in a 10 and move the fry to a 30 to grow out. I just started last month and I have about 100 convict fry now. Cant wait till they are big and the feeding begins.

Oh of course I wouldn't go with goldfish. It's just we talk about alot of things in this forum but i've yet to run into anyone that talks about breeding their own feeders. Tryna get a feel for how common of a practice it is so i can decide weither or not to add that into my shoal's diet.

im going to be breeding convicts for food for my future ps (tank still cycling but its getting there :irked:) unfortuantly my last batch was killed off by my elevated ammonia levels in my tank (yeah im using the convicts to cycle my tank ) i just never thought convicts would breed in 2 ppm ammonia (i found out the hard way they DO breed in anything)

you can breed any fish to use as feeders. gold fish are ok to use, but arent as easy to breed as convicts. ppl chose convicts bc the parents won't eat the fry. the reason ppl breed their feeders is so they are sure they are free from disease. a lot of ppl just use a quaranteen tank for feeders. usually if they are ok for a couple weeks they are ok to feed. if i want to give my Ps a treat i just go and get some platys danios or whatever is cheap from the lfs and toss them in a 20 gallon i have going 2 weeks or so while i treat with pimafix and prazipro. breeding is just too much BS
