Feeders

Thanks everybody for their input. I appreciate everybody pointing out the pros and the cons. I learned a little bit about each one of your feeding routines. Even had a few laughs.

Ive not yet used any supplements, sounds interesting though. Why do you deshell the shrimps? I just yank the tail off and throw one in ever other day. Ive never taken the shell off unless they came that way. Lately I been feeding shrimp, silversides, nightcrawlers, fish peices, and some turkey lunchmeat if its out of date when I go to make a sandwich. I think so far he has like flounder filet the best, I got this on accident when I was buying prepacked talapia filets. nightcrawlers he loves enough to eat in front of me, everything else I have no Idea, just judging on how long it takes for it to dissapear....allot of it takes a day....I know I should remove it, but he seems to like to eat around 3-5 AM When I wake up there is sometimes little chunks of leftovers, when I come home from work they are gone. If it takes him that long to eat I normally skip a day or two till I feed him agian, if he eats it reasonably quickly I feed him again the next night. Ive never tried pellets. Anyone else here with a rhom feed pellets? Im afraid he wouldnt eat them and they would blend with the substrate and I wouldnt know that there is lots of food rotting.
 
OH yeah, on the topic, I give feeders sometimes, but not the ones from petco or superstore. Just the ones one of the lfs that is a fish only store sells, I am reasonably sure they are clean and raised on premesis. 12 for a buck. I assume they arent buying them somewhere else.

LOL, in a way you could say that: I am trying to introduce Enders into my heavily planted 220 P tank, but with little success. My breeding colony is in a 10 gal, and I keep moving fry over into the P tank ...

I've been searching craiglist for extra tanks since i posted this and think i'm finally going to dive into breeding convicts next week. Just for kicks.

I'm not too worried about the hassles. Besides, what else am i gonna do? Read the piranha forums everyday? ;)
 
So what? 5 months later I've finally got my first batch of convict fry.

For Piranha - no, it's not nessasary. They readily accept frozen fish. For my Payara and Leaf Fish, yes. I use Mollies breed in brackish water.They are live bearers and the fry grow rather quickly. I've toyed with the idea of Convicts but their spiney dorsals swayed me to Mollies. I'd be afraid of them getting logged in the throat or creating internal damage. I did - before MFK - breed Goldfish, Guppies, Rosies, Comets - and ya it's a real pain in the arse. I have several large tupperware pans/buckets for seperation. The seperation was the biggest pain, as all of the above Cyprinides will eat all of their fry if you don't act quickly.
