I've seen a LMB eat a baby duck, It was Sad.

That's not sad, that's great!

1. the definition of out hobby is to keep fish in the best possiblr habitat, that means a complete diet, so if bass eat mice in the wild they do it for a reason and therefore if it was my fish in MY tank it would defienetly get a mouse at least once a month

The best possible habitat? If the definition of our hobby is to keep fish in the best possible habitat than toss your bass in a pond where it belongs. There is nothing natural about an aquarium habitat and thus it isen't natural to feed a bass a mouse in an aquarium habitat. There is a difference between a LMB eating a mouse in the wild or in captivity. Bass in the wild have to work for their food, they are constantly on the move. Hunting, breeding, evading predators and then there's winter to deal with. They use up A LOT more energy than a captive bass would and so eating a mouse once in awhile is no big deal for a wild bass. In captivity LMB don't have to hunt, they don't have to work. They hover around all day in a warm glass box waiting to be fed. Go ahead, feed your LMB a mouse once a month in addition to daily feedings of whatever else. Your bass won't be healthy for long, especially after all that mammal fat clogs it's liver.

2. the nurtients found in a mammalian flesh are unique in the way that there are a more complete scource of protiens

That's a very poor reason to give a fish mammalian flesh, there are plenty of frozen, dry, freeze dried and live foods that pack just as much proteins as a mouse and are much more healthy. You do have one thing here correct though, mammalian flesh is different but not in a good way. Feed your fish mammal flesh too often and the mammal fat will get stored in the fish's liver and might eventually kill it. If you want your fish to get those mammal proteins feed it beefheart, it has very little fat and no hair, bones or organs to clean up.

3. bass are hunters, to derpive a predator the right to be a predator is sad, if it wants to hunt then LET IT HUNT!!!!!

Do you have a house cat? If so do you go to the LPS and buy it mice, rats, rabbits and birds? I doubt it...you probably feed it catfood. How sad, that poor poor cat. How about a dog? Do you bring home rabbits and fawns for your dog to hunt? Probably not. A fish is no different. I'm not a fish, so I cannot speak for them but I'm willing to bet bass don't WANT to hunt, they HAVE to hunt, they don't have a choice. Given a choice a bass would probably want to save it's energy for something more important like breeding or avoiding predators. We are complex intelligent animals with a lot of spare time on our hands, many of us like to hunt for sport but don't mistake a fish for a human.

for all the people that dotn want to just help this man out......

Damm this thread is fuuny .

but to the point i see nothing wrong in giving a fish a mouse if he can handle it . while i dont mean as an exclusive diet i mean as a occasional treat . te fatty liver concers are based on animals fed mice on a regular bassis.go ahead and give it to him once in a while . just make sure u give him a few days off food to help him burn off some of that meal.

It started out as a good thread, then it became a pissing match. It's a mouse and for a pet fish, whats the big deal? It's not like he wants to feed it endangered species. Well I hope not. :evil_lol: I'm not a biologist, but I am an outdoorsman. I know LMB are eat what they can catch. I don't think that it would hurt it's health not to eat a mammal or to eat it. what's best for the fish? well like some one said, that would be at least a pond. I'd think a 1000 gal tank would be min for it to live to it's greatest potental. Do I think you should have to keep them in something that size for them to be health and happy? NO. Some with better fish knowlege than me could tell what size that'd be.

Listen....if i could get him to eat ANYTHING prepared, don't you think i would?!?!?!?! He just wont, time after time,he keeps spitting them out...........i try guys, trust me:(:(:(:((

wow, someones a little grumpy today.....

now
1. yes the defienition of our hobby is to keep fish in the best possible habitat, and if we all "toss our bass into a pond where it belongs" then there wouldnt be much of a hobby to have then would there? my goal as an aquasitst , and i think i speak for many when i say this, is to keep my fish in as accurate, as comfortable, and as close to wild conditions as i can. and as for the fish using less energyin a tank i think you are very wrong my freind, bass arnt aquarium fish, they're wild, and as a fisherman i can tell you that a bass uses the same amount of energy hoovering in one place under a lilypad waiting for food to drop by in a lake as it does in a tank. one of the resons i feed my fish the occasional like food is so that they use energy to catch it !!! therefore i stand by feeding my fish a very complete diet that matches theyre wild deit as close as it could, within reason of course (i wont feed my aros monkeys :))

2.i agree with the fact that mammalian flesh can be dangerous, if it isnt burned off, which is why i would only feed a lmb a mouse once a month or once every 2 months........ also in a deit consisting of a variety of things, such as prepeared foods, live fish, and dry foods, frogs, and the odd cricket or grass hopper. the fish gets pletnty of exercise and plenty of variation.

3. fisrt of all i dont see the relevance in what i feed my cats and dogs but ill give ya the breakdown neways. i currently only have 2 cats and both are quite the outdoosry type, they bring home plenty of mice, birds, lizards, rabbits and squirrels. and yes i do think that they benefit from this in addition to the spare table scraps and dry food that they get. i also know that they enjoy this hunting that they do. if they didnt they just wouldnt do it, they get plenty of other food and have no need to supplement their diets, but wow guess what, they hunt newyas isnt that wierd:screwy:

dude, fish eat what they eat for a reason, if a bass eats a mouse then nature has equipped it with the ability to do so, now if ud let me be i have to go feed my fish:naughty:

so lagemouthbadbass, u want a healthy truely monster bass right? heres what id feed it....

one of the following once a month:
1 frozen or live pinky mouse or 1 frog or 3 large grasshoppers

once a week:
about 2-7 quarentied minnows from your local bait store

dialy:
cut market shrimp
hikari sinking carni pellets

allow at least 2 days of fasting per week

there ya go, a totaly jam packed varied feeding regimen (may be a little expensive tho)
