Feeding Monster Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depends on the fish. My aros get fed Once a day when big an when small twice a day, its the same with my other monsters (TSN, Marble cat, CK). all my other fish get fed once a day.

Small meals more frequently is the way to go!

I was feeding my P's 1/2 a beefheart cube per Pirahna 3 times a day. I'd cut them up, drop in a 1/2, and typically one P would snatch it up quickly. I'd feed the other two, and then feed them again in about 6 hours. I've only had them for a short time, and they've already grown over an inch.

//EDIT

Depending on how big your fish is, just keep an eye on their stomachs. If they're ballooning, then cut back on their portions.

It sounds good to me, but I'm just an MFK noob at the moment, so I've got plenty to learn.

Smaller amounts more often is better, although not critical for adult fish. I almost always drop in a few cubes of beefheart on my way out the door in the morning and feed shrimp, worms, or fish in the evening.

I feed all my fish twice a day.

If it was up to my puffer he would never stop eating I think! I feed him about once a day, if he looks too full I may skip a day.

I feed my cichlids (not exactly monsters yet) two to three times daily. Not much though, 1-2 Hikari pellets at a time for approximately 2-3 minutes. I hate netting out uneaten food.

In the April issue of Aquarium Fish Magazine there's a short article (pg 22) that stated that obese predatory marine fish due to overfeeding more than likely suffer from fatty accumulation in the liver, reducing their life spans significantly.

Is this also true for large freshwater fishes? If so, is this the main reason why a period of fasting is important?
