Feeding your fish dogg food ?

Chris...a treat for who? LOL It's a fish. Fish don't know, expect or show appreciation for "treats". It comes down to the WHY that it's being done. It's not for the fish...it's a visual treat for the owner at the potential expense of the fish's health. "Treat" them with raw shrimp or scallops.

obviously you don't have a personal relationship with your fish. My fish beg for food--treats--whatever you want to call it. I agree it is a visual treat for me to watch them beg for whatever I have to feed/or treat them with. I totally agree with you on the raw shrimp and scallops(Those items are fed to my fish often).

I don't know about a personal relationship...but I do have MANY tanks full of fish that recognize the hand that feeds. I do oblige, but just like one of my dogs...just becasue they bark and bounce....I don't succumb to the pressure and feed them kibble.

I have a special diet. York Peppermint Patties and Diet Mt. Dew. And i am NOT sharing them with my fish...even though it would be a nice "treat" and just about as beneficial as "Beneful" to the fish.

its particularly funny about begging cuz a fish will beg for anything when he sees you coming. he has no idea you are gonna give him dog food he just equates your presence with feeding him. kinda like a baby will cry for a bottle and once he knows everytime he cries you will give it to him he will cry for nothing just to get the bottle. its simply called greed .

Feeding dog food to a fish - specifically the fish that the OP mentioned - isn't doing anything for the them other than possibly causing long term health problems, so what's the point? If you're too broke to afford high quality FISH food that's fine, go ahead and "treat" them with whatever you want, but as I said, don't come here and tell people it's fine, cuz it isn't... it doesn't matter if you're 12 or 40, you're still wrong dude.

If you're looking for CHEAP way to save money on food, simply buy directly from the feed mills that supply the hatcheries.

Duh, the mill is at the hatcheries, thats where I get it from, get it? LOL

I don't think the OP has chimed in on this thread since yesterday afternoon. It looks like he will have a lot of reading to do. Who knows if he or his friend will feed dog food to their fish again? I still believe that feeding dog food to cichlids is a bad idea. But the OP has plenty of posts and the option of using the search function to form his own opinion.
