Feeding your Largemouth Bass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
having some trouble getting him started on the pellets. i tried the large floating chichlid gold. he tried to eat one but spit it out. could you guys recommend another brand? i hear the massivore pellets come up on here a lot, would that be a good choice?

Alright, here is a quick update. Yesterday, after 7 days of no live food my bass finally ate dry food. The food he ate is Tetra's cichlid jumbo sticks. Maybe the size of them plus the fact they are shaped like small worms helps. I actually can just dip half the stick into the water, twitch it, and he'll come up take it out of my hand.

wish my LMB was as good as u guys
i've been feeding mine worms and bloodworms for the pass week and now their barely eatting any of the worms i drop in ( i cut them up to small pieces first)

Fishes arent stupid, they'll stop eating when they're full FULL. So just give them a meal size for breakfast when they hunt early in the morning, and a snack size at night just for kicks, but not really necessary. They can go a couple of weeks without food so dont worry about underfeeding infact this is better imo cause they're hunters, gotta stay lean to be a good hunter! Also have you ever gutted a LMB before? It's stomach isnt all that big, so fed wisely.

Bass love crawlers. You could supplement your feedings with crawlers. We grow them year round. We just can't ship when it gets super cold. EarthwormOrganics.net. If you do it right you will have your own worms for fishing also. Just a thought.

lol, you live in Butternut

I just recently got mine pellet trained. He will eat koi pond pellets and cichlid sticks from the top, but he LOVES Hikari massivore delight sinking pellets.

My LMB would eat ANYTHING i could find. from bugs to fish and raw chicken, they were viscious. one actually died after eating a crayfish as big as he was... swam with a cray hanging in its mouth for 2 days and eventually rolled over dead :(

just be careful they will jump at any small insect near the tank, i would recomend some heavy covers for your tank.
