Feeding?

Thanks guys,

Ammonia crept back up this morning :( I'm gonna do another big water change before I go out to get a testing kit.

My walmart definitely doesn't have earthworms. I have been checking gas stations, I know there has gotta be one that has worms in February lol. I will order online if I have to, but it seems you have to order them in huge batches, and I would assume most of them would die before they could be eaten.

One ate frozen bloodworms this.morning, the other didn't.

I'm gonna go do a water change, as well as add one teaspoon of salt. Completely ignoring the 1 tbsp. Per gallon advice, sorry but that seems like a sure way to kill em.

You can keep worms (like red wrigglers) alive in moist shredded newspaper (which they'll eat) and also feed food scraps - banana skin was popular with my worms when I was weaning my Hystrix. Blackworms you can keep alive in the fridge if you keep changing their water.

Omg just the thought of thousands of worms living in my house, let alone my fridge gives me the creeps lol. Gotta do what I gotta do though, right. I'll keep them in the hubbys beer fridge ;).

Just did a 50% water change, by myself. No easy feat, but didn't want to wait 7 more hours for hubby to get home.

Gonna call a few more places to look for worms, then order online.

You need to buy 30 ghost shrimp in one go maybe 50

Turn the temp up to 84
78 is to low for rays in my opinion

You checked the sporting goods area?? Look at other sporting goods stores in the area, check the fishing area in the store for the fridge, worms are not that bad in the house, they stay in their container, cutting them up is the fun part, Just about every fishing store will have worms, still a great choice in bait. And stingray food. lol , And I would not be turning the heat up for no real reason, 78 is just fine.

Thanks guys,

Yeah, my walmart never has worms, Kmart by the lake does, but not in the winter.

I'll call gander mountain, didn't think about them. Our gas stations, ones close to fishing spots all sell worms, but again, fishing season doesn't start til march, so worms are hard to come by.

I. Found a LFS that has blackworms, cheap too. They are getting ghost shrimp in the morning, so I hate to drive all the way there two days in a row. If I can find earthworms for today, that would be great.

Ok, another question for the experts...

The guy who gave me all the other bad info told me to attach a piece of foam to the intake on the filter. Is this a good idea or not? I have has foam there for a while, and I do notice that my filter cartridges do last longer. But I feel like maybe the foam is preventing the filter from really being able to suck up any lingering food I may miss. Plus, while looking at all the tank pics everyone here posts, I haven't seen any similar foam blocks...can take pics if no one knows what I am talking about.

Ammonia levels are still hovering between .5 and 1. Wondering if the foam may be preventing the filter from fully cycling as it should.
