HI
I have two rays one is a rio tigre and one is a castrix they eat twice a day approx 12 smelt and 16 shrimp as well as earth worms and pellets. They do have venom in their stingers. What size tank do you have? And do you have anything else in the tank. I totally am in love with my rays and they come right up to the top of the water and take food right out of my hand. They also like to play with my fingers whenthey come to the top tto get petted Andi know they is not the best but they have such personalites.

http://www.bioconlabs.com/nitribactfacts.html<---You need to read this and understand the nitrogen cycle.

I have read about and absolutely understand the nitrogen cycle. That's not the issue here, but thanks for the link.

Wow your rays eat a lot! How big are they? I have 2 small ones, retics I am told. They are currently in a much too small 92 gal corner tank. As soon as my hubby can make our floors able.to withstand the weight of the 180 we have, they will go in there. And then from there to to biggest tank I can fit in my house lol. There is 5 fish left with them. A mickey mouse, and four assorted tetras. All one inch big.

I agree, they have amazing personalities. I love 'em.

Any close-up pictures of your rays without sand on them? They aren't retics. If you can get some established filter media from your lfs, that will help.

Looks more like an orbignyi/humerosa- not retic. Where they sold as "yellow" or "white" hystrix?

They were sold as hystrix, not any particular color though. When I was looking at pics of retics online, I also thought they didn't look exactly like most of the pics I saw. The two I have used to look very different, however, as they grow, they are starting to get some similarities. The bigger one has a lot less tail after the stinger than the little one, like at least an inch less. I'll try to get a pic of the little guy at some point today.

And, now looking at pics of both, I agree with you. They really have the same coloring/pattern as an orbignyi. They have done some changing in their patterning and coloring already, is it safe to assume they will continue to do so as they mature?

They may change a little more. In part from the light substrate. Notice the banding on the tail.

I definitely see the banding. So you think they are an Orbignyi/humerosa mix?

Anyone else have an opinion based on ny latest pic?
